Campo Felice
Campo Felice is a karstic plateau in the central Apennines, included in the province of L'Aquila, Abruzzo, central Italy. Included in the communal territories of Lucoli and Rocca di Cambio, in the Sirente-Velino Regional Park, it is geographically bounded by the Velino-Sirente chain, with the other plains of Piani di Pezza and Altopiano delle Rocche located nearby. Campo Felice is situated at some 1500 m above the sea level, and has the shape of a basin. Vegetation is scarce, mostly composed by beech woods in the surrounding mountains slopes. Temperatures can reach -30° C in winter. It is the seat of the eponymous Tre Nevi ski resort. Tre Nevi
Tre Nevi is one of the most important ski areas of South Italy, located in the Apennine Mountains, in Abruzzo. Created in 1997, it is made up of three ski resorts, hence the name of the area: the first two are Campo Felice, with the two slopes of Lucoli and Rocca di Cambio, and Ovindoli, both included between Monte Velino, Monte Magnola and Monte Sirente, within the Sirente-Velino Regional Park, while the third is the more distant station of Campo Imperatore, on the Gran Sasso. Monte Sirente
Monte Sirente is a mountain in Abruzzo, central Italy, the highest peak (at 2,349 m) of a small chain extending for c. 13 km from the Altopiano delle Rocche, the Marsica and the Valle Subequana, ending to the Fucino plain. It is part of the Sirente-Velino Regional Park. The northern side of Sirente is characterized by deep gorges created by glaciers during the last Pleistocene glaciation. The southern side declines in a more milder way towards the Fucino. Nearby is the Sirente crater. Campo Imperatore ("Emperor's Field") is a mountain grassland or alpine meadow formed by a high basin shaped plateau located above Gran Sasso massif, the largest plateau of Apennine ridge. Known as "Little Tibet", it is located in Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park, near L'Aquila, Abruzzo, Italy. Beech
Beech (''Fagus'') is a genus of deciduous trees in the family Fagaceae, native to temperate Europe, Asia, and North America. Recent classifications recognize 10 to 13 species in two distinct subgenera, ''Engleriana'' and ''Fagus''. The Piani di Pezza is a glacial-karstic-alluvial plain in the province of L'Aquila, Abruzzo, central Italy. Monte Velino
Monte Velino is a mountain (2,487 m) in the province of L'Aquila, Abruzzo, central Italy, part of the Abruzzo Apennines. Located nearby the boundary with Lazio, between the Fucino plain and the Aterno, Salto and Velino rivers' valleys, it is the highest peak in the Sirente-Velino Regional Park, the highest point in the Tiber basin, and the third highest peak in the whole Apennines. The massif is included in the Sirente-Velino Regional Park. It is characterized by a rough and desertic appearance, although specialized vegetation is widespread. Karst Topography
Karst is a topography formed from the dissolution of soluble rocks such as limestone, dolomite, and gypsum. It is characterized by underground drainage systems with sinkholes and caves. It has also been documented for more weathering-resistant rocks, such as quartzite, given the right conditions. Subterranean drainage may limit surface water, with few to no rivers or lakes. Rocca di Cambio (locally ''Rocche 'i Cagne'') is a ''comune'' and town in the province of L'Aquila in the Abruzzo region of Italy.
