Camp Loughridge
Camp Loughridge (CL) is a non-profit, non-denominational Christian camp located in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. Camp Loughridge's heritage and traditions began in 1959 at the site of the YWCA The Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) is a nonprofit organization with a focus on empowerment, leadership, and rights of women, young women, and girls in more than 100 countries. The World office is currently based in Geneva, Swi ...'s Camp Parthenia, which was established in 1919 on the West campus. Today, in addition to traditional campers, Loughridge also serves economically disadvantaged children through scholarships. For many of these children, it is their first experience with a variety of activities such as hiking, swimming, canoeing, archery, challenge course and learning about nature. First Presbyterian Church (Tulsa)
The First Presbyterian Church of Tulsa was organized in 1885 in Creek Nation, Indian Territory, before statehood. It originally met in the store owned by brothers James M. Hall and Harry C. Hall, and was served by itinerant, circuit-riding ministers. Its first building was wooden, built in 1899. The first permanent minister, Reverend Charles William Kerr and his wife arrived in Tulsa in 1900. Kerr served at this church for more than 40 years. Under his leadership, two more church buildings were constructed, each of stone. As Tulsa developed as a major city after the early 20th-century oil boom here, this church's congregation grew to become in 1948 the second-largest Presbyterian congregation in the country. Sapulpa is a city in Creek and Tulsa counties in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. The population was 20,544 at the 2010 United States census, compared to 19,166 at the 2000 census. The population as of 2022 is 22,205. As of 2019, the estimated population was 21,278. It is the county seat of Creek County. History Early history The town was named after the area's first permanent settler, a full-blood Lower Creek Indian named ''Sapulpa,'' from the Kasihta or Cusseta band, from Osocheetown in Alabama. About 1850, he established a trading post near the meeting of Polecat and Rock creeks (about one mile (1.6 km) southeast of downtown Sapulpa). When the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad (which became the Frisco) built a spur to this area in 1886, it was known as Sapulpa Station. YWCA
The Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) is a nonprofit organization with a focus on empowerment, leadership, and rights of women, young women, and girls in more than 100 countries. The World office is currently based in Geneva, Switzerland, and the nonprofit is headquartered in Washington, DC. The YWCA is independent of the YMCA, but a few local YMCA and YWCA associations have merged into YM/YWCAs or YMCA-YWCAs and belong to both organizations, while providing the programs from each. Governance Structure The World Board is the governing body of the World YWCA, and includes representatives from all regions of the global YWCA movement. The World Council is the legislative authority and governing body of the World YWCA.
