The president of the Senate of Chile is the presiding officer of the Senate of Chile. The position comes after the Ministers of State in the line of succession of the President of Chile in case of temporary incapacitation or vacancy, according to Article 29 of the Constitution of Chile. Functions The President of the Senate receives no special treatment in the sessions of Senate. However, in the official communications the President holds the title of ("Excellency"). Guido Girardi Lavín (born 24 January 1961) is a Chilean doctor and politician. He was a senator in district No. 7 for Santiago Poniente. He previously served as the president of that Senate of Chile, chamber. He usually takes Progressive politics, progressive stances on social issues, such as defense of the environment and a critical stance against private healthcare. He has also been involved in several controversies in Chile. He agitated a legal and social polemic for filing a complaint in November 2008 against two police officers who allegedly "disrespected" the senator while writing him a speeding ticket.
