Camillo Camilliani
Camillo Camilliani ( fl. 1574–1603) was an Italian architect, military engineer and sculptor. He is mostly known for the design of watchtowers and other fortifications around the coasts of Sicily. Life Camillani was born in Florence sometime in the 16th century. He was the son of the sculptor Francesco Camilliani. In 1574, he and Michelangelo Naccherino directed the relocation of the Fontana Pretoria, which had been designed by his father, from Florence to Palermo. In July 1583, Viceroy Marcantonio Colonna invited him to Sicily to design a system of coastal fortifications to prevent the island from being attacked by the Ottoman Empire or Barbary pirates. Camillani reviewed the existing fortifications, and in 1584 he published his findings in the report ''Descrittione delle marine di tutto il regno di Sicilia con le guardie necessarie da cavallo e da piedi che vi si tengono''. Manfria is an Italian village and the only civil parish (''frazione'') of the municipality of Gela, in the Province of Caltanissetta, Sicily. In 2001 its population was 387. History Around 340 BC, in Sicilian pottery, one of the 3 groups of workshops specialized in red-figure style was named " Lentini-Manfria Group" and was active in Syracuse and Gela. Manfria, named after the homonym medieval coastal tower, grew in the second half of the 20th century. It received the official status of ''frazione'' after a municipal law of 24 January 2006. Geography Manfria is a sea resort located on the Mediterranean coast, 12 km-far from Gela and 27 from Licata. Isola delle Femmine ( Sicilian: ''Isula dî Fìmmini'') is an Italian town in north-western Sicily, administratively part of the Metropolitan City of Palermo.
