Camden, Minneapolis
Camden is a community in Minneapolis, covering the upper half of the north side. Its boundaries are 53rd Avenue North to the north, the Mississippi River to the east, Lowry Avenue North to the south, and Xerxes Avenue North to the west. The community is composed of seven smaller neighborhoods. It also contains the Camden Industrial Area and the Humboldt Industrial Area, neither of which is assigned to an official neighborhood. The Camden and Lowry Avenue bridges connect Camden to Northeast Minneapolis. The combination of Near North and Camden is often referred to collectively as "North Minneapolis." Northeast is a defined community in the U.S. city of Minneapolis that is composed of 13 smaller neighborhoods whose street addresses end in "NE". Unofficially it also includes the neighborhoods of the University community which have "NE" addresses, and the entirety of the Old Saint Anthony business district, which sits on the dividing line of "NE" and "SE" addresses. Lowry Avenue Bridge
The Lowry Avenue Bridge is a steel tied-arch bridge over the Mississippi River in Minneapolis, Minnesota, completed in October 2012. History The original structure was built in 1905 and utilized a 5-span truss bridge design. This bridge lasted 51 years until it became too weak to carry traffic. In 1958, five new truss spans were built in this location, using the same piers but raised 20 feet to allow navigation on the upper Mississippi River. This bridge was notable in that it had a steel grid deck where the river was visible directly through the mesh, as opposed to the (currently) more common concrete deck. Lead-based paint was removed from the bridge during a 2004 repainting effort and the steel grid deck was replaced in 2003. Camden Bridge
Camden Bridge is a continuous span plate girder bridge, that spans the Mississippi River in Minneapolis. It connects 42nd Avenue North in the Camden community on the west side of the river to 37th Avenue Northeast in Northeast Minneapolis on the east side. Victory, Minneapolis
The Victory neighborhood is located within the Camden community of Minneapolis. It is bordered by the Humboldt Industrial Area on the north, Penn Avenue on the east, Dowling Avenue on the south, and the town of Robbinsdale on the west. Victory Memorial Parkway, from which the neighborhood takes its name, runs through the neighborhood and forms part of the western border. History The Victory neighborhood was once home to the many factory and mill workers of north Minneapolis in the early 20th century. After World War I, the city named Victory Memorial Parkway and built upon it a memorial to all local soldiers who died in the World Wars. The Parkway, in addition to serving as a living memorial, has become a center of affluence and culture in North Minneapolis.
