John Calvin
John Calvin (; frm, Jehan Cauvin; french: link=no, Jean Calvin ; 10 July 150927 May 1564) was a French theologian, pastor and reformer in Geneva during the Protestant Reformation. He was a principal figure in the development of the system of Christian theology later called Calvinism, including its doctrines of predestination and of God's absolute sovereignty in the salvation of the human soul from death and eternal damnation. Calvinist doctrines were influenced by and elaborated upon the Augustinian and other Christian traditions. Various Congregational, Reformed and Presbyterian churches, which look to Calvin as the chief expositor of their beliefs, have spread throughout the world. Calvin Johnson (American Football)
Calvin Johnson Jr., (born September 29, 1985) is an American former football wide receiver who played in the National Football League (NFL) for nine seasons with the Detroit Lions. He played college football at Georgia Tech, where he twice received first-team All-American honors, and was selected by the Lions second overall in the 2007 NFL Draft. Nicknamed "Megatron" after the ''Transformers'' character of the same name, he is regarded as one of the greatest wide receivers of all time. Calvin Thomas (linguist)
Calvin Thomas (October 28, 1854 near Lapeer, Michigan – November 4, 1919 in New York City) was an American scholar who served as professor of Germanic languages and literature at the University of Michigan and Columbia University. Biography Thomas graduated from the University of Michigan in 1874 with a Bachelor of Arts. He taught Latin and Greek at the Grand Rapids High School for a while, after which he studied philology at the University of Leipzig in Germany in 1877/1878. His studies ended abruptly when he responded to a request from the University of Michigan to return and teach German. In 1886, he became professor of Germanic languages at Michigan. In 1896, he moved to fill the same chair at Columbia University. Professor Thomas did much to introduce the study of German into US public schools. Calvin Smith (born January 8, 1961) is a former sprint track and field athlete from the United States. He is a former world record holder in the 100-meter sprint with 9.93 seconds in 1983 and was twice world champion over 200 metres, in 1983 and 1987. He became Olympic champion in the 4x100-meter relay in 1984. He was born in Bolton, Mississippi. Background Smith was brought up in Bolton, Mississippi and attended Sumner Hill High School in Clinton, Mississippi. Smith had a dazzling collegiate career at the University of Alabama. Calvin Eugene Simon (May 22, 1942 – January 6, 2022) was an American singer who was a member of the bands Parliament and Funkadelic. He is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, inducted in 1997 along with fifteen other members of Parliament-Funkadelic. Early life Simon was born in Beckley, West Virginia on May 22, 1942. Calvin Royal III (born 1988/89) is an American ballet dancer. He is the third black dancer to be a principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre. Early life and training Royal is from Tampa, Florida. He first studied in piano, and had appeared in a local dance show titled ''The Chocolate Nutcracker''. Calvin Pickard (born April 15, 1992) is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender who is currently playing for the Bakersfield Condors in the American Hockey League (AHL) while under contract to the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League (NHL). Pickard was drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in the second round (49th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
