Robert Wight Doctor of Medicine, MD Fellow of the Royal Society, FRS Linnean Society of London, FLS (6 July 1796 – 26 May 1872) was a Scottish surgeon in the East India Company, whose professional career was spent entirely in southern India, where his greatest achievements were in botany – as an economic botanist and leading taxonomist in south India. Flowering plants are plants that bear flowers and fruits, and form the clade Angiospermae (), commonly called angiosperms. They are mainly distributed in Asia, with some species in Africa, the Americas, Australasia, and the Pacific Islands.
