Call The Gun Expert
''Call the Gun Expert'' is a British crime television series which first aired on BBC 1 in 1964.Pitts p.308 It consisted of a single series of six episodes featuring Wensley Pithey as Robert Churchill, a ballistics expert who solves a number of crimes based on real-life historical cases. Pithey frequently starred in police procedurals, and was well known to audiences for his role as Detective Superindendent Charlesworth. The scripts were written by journalist Macdonald Hastings who also narrated he series. Macdonald Hastings
Douglas Edward Macdonald "Mac" Hastings (6 October 1909 – 4 October 1982), known as Macdonald Hastings, was an English journalist, author and war correspondent. Early life and education Hastings was born in Camberwell, South London, the son of journalist and playwright Basil Macdonald Hastings. He was sent to Stonyhurst, a Jesuit boarding school, at age seven. (His grandfather and his father also attended Stonyhurst.) At one point he contracted pneumonia, but his troubles went greatly unnoticed. The school matron reportedly waved him off and ignored the issue while a priest gave him the last rites. He had some positive experiences, such as uncovering a natural faculty for public oration. Career Hastings's father died at age 46, leaving young "Mac" and his mother essentially poor. Patrick Francis Joyce (31 May 1923 — 27 July 2000) was an actor in film and television. Biography Joyce was born in Trieste, Italy. His father was Frantisek Schaurek, a Czech banker who had stolen money from the Živnostenská Bank in Trieste where he worked and committed suicide in 1926. His mother was Eileen Schaurek (nee Joyce), the sister of the author James Joyce. Norman Mitchell
Norman Mitchell Driver (27 August 1918 – 19 March 2001), known professionally as Norman Mitchell, was an English television, stage and film actor. Born in Sheffield, West Riding of Yorkshire, his father was a mining engineer and his mother a concert singer. He attended Carterknowle Grammar School and the University of Sheffield, before appearing in repertory theatre and with the Royal Shakespeare Company. During World War II he served with the Royal Army Medical Corps. He then made many television appearances and appeared in over sixty films. Mitchell was married to actress Pauline Mitchell until her death in 1992. He was the father of Jacqueline Mitchell and actor Christopher Mitchell, known for his role in the BBC sitcom ''It Ain't Half Hot Mum''. His son Christopher predeceased him by a month. David Bernard Swift (3 April 1931 – 8 April 2016) was an English actor known for his role as Henry Davenport in the topical comedy ''Drop the Dead Donkey''. Early life Swift was born in Liverpool, the second of the four children of Abram Sampson Swift and Lily Rebecca (née Greenman), who owned a furniture shop in Bootle. His family were Jewish. He was educated at Clifton College and Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, where he studied law. He then embarked on a career as a businessman with his father-in-law, J.P. Petronella Barker (born 12 October 1942 in Sittingbourne, Kent) is an English actress. Life The daughter of the comedy actor Eric Barker and the actress Pearl Hackney, she grew up in the village of Stalisfield, Kent, and was educated at Ashford School. Barker trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama from 1960 to 1963, in her final year winning the Carlton Hobbs Bursary, which gave her a six-month contract with the BBC's Radio Drama Company.
