California Senate Factfinding Subcommittee On Un-American Activities
California Senate Factfinding Subcommittee on Un-American Activities (CUAC) was established by the California State Legislature in 1941 as the Joint Fact-Finding Committee on UnAmerican Activities. The creation of the new joint committee (with members from both the State Senate and State Assembly) followed the publication of reports from two legislative committees that had investigated allegations about the administration of programs at the California State Relief Administration. In 1947, the California State Assembly ended its participation and the committee was reorganized by the California State Senate under authority of the Rules Committee of the State Senate as a subcommittee of the General Research Committee. CUAC was the California equivalent of the House Committee on Un-American Activities. Leon Wofsy (November 21, 1921 – August 25, 2019) was an American biochemist, activist, and educator. He was the department chair and professor emeritus of Immunology in the Department of Bacteriology and Immunology at University of California, Berkley. Early life Wofsy was born in Stamford, Connecticut, on November 21, 1921. In 1942 he graduated from City College of New York In September 1943, after graduation he was selected into the US Army. Marge Frantz (née Gelders; June 18, 1922 – October 16, 2015) was an American activist and among the first generation of academics who taught women's study courses in United States. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, from a young age she became involved in progressive causes. She worked as a labor organizer, agitated for civil rights, and participated in the women's poll tax repeal movement.
