''California'' is a 1977 Italo-Spanish Spaghetti Western film directed by Michele Lupo. The film was generally well received by critics and obtained a good commercial success at Italian box office. Plot After the American Civil War gunman California wants to renew his life. He changes his name to Michael Random and seeks a home where he can live in peace. In the war's aftermath he gets to know young Willy Preston. En route to Preston's family, Willy is killed by a gang of criminals under the helm of Robert Whittaker. California informs Willy's kin and falls in love with Willy's sister, Helen. One day they witness Whittaker and his gang robbing a bank; Helen is taken hostage. California is faced with the decision to resort to the merciless shootist he was during the war although it will not spare Helen the gruesome experience of being game to ruthless desperados. Malisa Longo (born 13 July 1950) is an Italian actress, model and writer. Life and career Born Maria Luisa Longo in Venice, at young age Longo moved to Rome where she started a career as a model; she entered the Miss Italia beauty contest, winning the Miss Cinema and the Miss Lazio titles. Nazzareno Zamperla (25 April 1937 – 19 March 2020) was an Italian actor and stuntman. Career Born in Treviso into a circus family, Zamperla came to Rome in 1949 and worked primarily in the 1950s and 1960s as a stunt performer. His focus was on the sword and sandal films. In the 1960s and 1970s, he transitioned into appearances as an actor in front of the camera, and his focus shifted to Spaghetti Western productions, where he was also known under the name of Nick Anderson, while also continuing working behind the camera as a gun master. Romano Puppo
Romano Puppo (25 March 1933 – 11 May 1994) was an Italian stuntman and actor. Life and career Born in Rome, Puppo debuted in 1961 in the Mauro Bolognini's drama '' Careless'', and after a number of very minor roles he soon became a regular of Italian genre cinema in roles of henchmen and villains. Mainly active in Spaghetti Westerns and Poliziotteschi films, he was also cast as the Paolo Villaggio's antagonist in a number of comedies. He was hired as Lee Van Cleef's stuntman and double stand-in by director Gianfranco Parolini for his ''Sabata'' trilogy, and was one of his pallbearers in 1989. He served as his stuntman in a number of films including '' Sabata'' (1969), ''Commandos'' (1968) along Giampiero Albertini, and ''The Good, the Bad and the Ugly'' (1966) along Benito Stefanelli. Andrea Aureli (5 March 1923 – 5 November 2007) was an Italian actor. Life and career Born in Terni, Aureli graduated from the Liceo classico in his hometown, then he enrolled the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome, graduating in 1947. Since the early 1950s he began an intense career as a character actor, being often cast in roles of villains and antagonists. In genre films, he was sometimes credited with the stage name Andrew Ray.
