Calgary South was a provincial electoral district in Calgary, Alberta, Canada from 1963 to 1971. The district was one of 63 districts in 1963, and 65 in 1967, mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta using the first past the post method of voting. History The Calgary South electoral district, covering southeast Calgary, was created in the early 1960s from Calgary-South East, Gleichen and Banff-Cochrane electoral districts. Calgary-Millican was a provincial electoral district in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta using the first past the post method of voting from 1971 to 1993. History The Calgary-Millican electoral district was created in the 1970 electoral boundary re-distribution from part of the Calgary-East and Calgary South electoral districts. The Calgary-Millican electoral district was abolished in the 1993 electoral boundary re-distribution, where the district was split, with the south part of the riding joined Calgary Shaw and the north merged with Calgary-Forest Lawn to re-form Calgary East electoral district. It was named after the neighbourhood of Millican, in the Ogden community. Historically this riding covered much of the same boundaries when it was split in 1989 as Calgary-Fort. Calgary Southeast
Calgary Southeast was a federal electoral district in Alberta, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1988 to 2015. The district was in the southeast part of the City of Calgary. It was bounded by the city limits to the south and east. History Boundary history Electoral history The South Calgary electoral district was created in 1913 when the Calgary provincial electoral district was carved into three ridings. The first election in 1913 featured a two candidate fight between Dr. Thomas Blow Conservative candidate and well known Calgary area lawyer Clifford Jones. Blow won the district with 71% of the popular vote, riding the peak of a wave that saw all the Calgary districts return Conservatives that year. The second and final election in the district in 1917 saw Blow re-elected. Calgary-South East (previously styled Calgary South East) is a provincial electoral district in Calgary, Alberta. It has existed twice, first from 1959 to 1963, and then re-created in 2010. The district is mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. The current electoral district was created from a portion of Airdrie-Chestermere, Calgary-Hays and Calgary-Shaw. It contains the neighbourhoods of Auburn Bay, Cranston, Mahogany & Seton. South Calgary is a residential neighbourhood in the southwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is located between 14th St west and Crowchild Trail. The community has an area redevelopment plan in place. The community maintains an outdoor swimming pool, as well as a community hall and several city parks. The Giuffre Family Library (previously Alexander Calhoun Library) of the Calgary Public Library is also located in the area. South Calgary was established in 1914 on land annexed by the City of Calgary in 1907. However, the area remained largely undeveloped until the early 1950s. Alberta provincial electoral districts are currently single member ridings that each elect one member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. There are 87 districts fixed in law in Alberta. History The original twenty five districts were drawn up by Liberal Member of Parliament Frank Oliver prior to the first general election of 1905. The original boundaries were widely regarded as being gerrymandered to favour the Alberta Liberal Party, although the Liberal Party did receive the majority of votes in the 1905 election and thus rightly formed majority government. Every boundary redistribution since 1905 has been based on the original boundaries, with districts being split or merged. Calgary-Egmont was a provincial electoral district in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta using the first past the post method of voting from 1971 to 2012. History Boundary history The district, covering southeast Calgary, was created in 1971 boundary re-distribution out of most of the Calgary South and Calgary Glenmore districts. The riding covered the neighborhoods of Riverbend, Acadia, Fairview, Willowpark, Mapleridge and Ramsay, Kingsland and Manchester. Banff-Cochrane
Banff-Cochrane was a provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada, mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1940 to 1975, and again from 1979 to 2019. The Banff-Cochrane electoral district is home to the town of Banff and the popular tourist destination Banff National Park, environmental issues tend to dominate here. The cost of living is significantly high especially in Canmore where there is a struggle to fill low wage service sector jobs, due to the high cost of living.
