Calgary Signal Hill
Calgary Signal Hill is a federal electoral district in Alberta, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 2015. Calgary Signal Hill was created by the 2012 federal electoral boundaries redistribution and was legally defined in the 2013 representation order. It came into effect after the 2015 federal election was called. It was created out of parts of the electoral districts of Calgary West and Calgary Centre. Geography The Calgary Signal Hill riding extends from the Bow River south to Glenmore Trail SW and from 101 St SW east to 37 St SW. It contains the neighbourhoods of Aspen Woods, Bowness, Christie Park, Coach Hill, Cougar Ridge, Crestmont, Discovery Ridge, Glamorgan, Glenbrook, Glendale, Patterson, Rosscarrock, Signal Hill, Springbank Hill, Spruce Cliff, Strathcona Park, The Slopes, Valley Ridge, Wentworth, Westgate, West Springs and Wildwood. Canadian Federal Electoral Redistribution, 2012
The federal electoral redistribution of 2012 was a redistribution of electoral districts ("ridings") in Canada following the results of the 2011 Canadian census. As a result of amendments to the Constitution Act, 1867, the number of seats in the House of Commons of Canada increased from 308 to 338. The previous electoral redistribution was in 2003. Background and previous attempts at reform Prior to 2012, the redistribution rules for increasing the number of seats in the House of Commons of Canada was governed by section 51 of the ''Constitution Act, 1867'', as last amended in 1985. As early as 2007, attempts were made to reform the calculation of how that number was determined, as the 1985 formula did not fully take into account the rapid population growth being experienced in the provinces of Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario. Discovery Ridge, Calgary
Discovery Ridge is a residential neighbourhood in the southwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is located at the western edge of the city and is bounded by Stoney Trail to the north, 69 Street W to the east, Rocky View County and the city limits to the west and the Elbow River and Tsuu T'ina first nation reserve to the south. Long before development, this area was referred to by longtime Calgarians as "Jackson's Valley", an isolated valley beside the Sarcee Military Reserve. When development first began in the late 1990s, the community was known as New Discovery and it was originally planned as a gated community, but this idea was later dropped and today, Discovery Ridge can be accessed by the public. West Springs is a residential neighbourhood in the southwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It is located at the western edge of the city, and is bordered to the west by the acreages and estate homes of Springbank. To the east it is bounded by 69 Street W, to the south by Bow Trail and to the north by Old Banff Coach Road, the community of Cougar Ridge and the Canada Olympic Park. The land, previously part of the East Springbank area of the Municipal District of Rocky View, was annexed to the City of Calgary in 1995 and West Springs was established in 2001. It is bounded by Bow Trail to the north, 45 Street W to the east, 17 Avenue S to the south and Sarcee Trail to the west. Edworthy Park is located north of the community. Wentworth is a small estate style community in southwest Calgary, Alberta. The unique features of Wentworth are its architectural treatment, tree coverage and ample green space. The community was developed between 2002 and 2008 and is home to under 1000 people. The community is composed of five units: Wentworth, The Willows of Wentworth, Wentworth Estates, Wexford Estates (now being built) and Wentworth Glen (under development). Valley Ridge is a residential neighbourhood in the northwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It is located at the western edge of the city, south of the Bow River and north of the Trans-Canada Highway. The Valley Ridge golf course is located in the northern part of the community. Springbank Hill is a large and diverse suburb near the western city limit of Calgary, Alberta in the southwest (SW) quadrant. It is bounded to the north by 17 Avenue SW, to the south by Stoney Trail, to the east by 69 Street SW and to the west by 101 Street SW. Signal Hill is a community in Calgary, Alberta. It contains the residential neighbourhoods of Sienna Hills and Signal Ridge. It is bounded by Sarcee Trail to the east, 17th Ave to the north, Stoney Trail to the south and 69th St to the west. Patterson Heights is a residential neighbourhood in the southwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is bounded by Sarcee Trail to the east and north, Bow Trail to the south, 69 Street to the west and Old Banff Coach Road to the south.
