''Calefare'' ( locally pronounced ) is an English-language Singaporean comedy series that debuted on Saturday August 9, 2008 on MediaCorp TV's Channel 5 as a "Sneak Preview," airing right after the National Day Parade. The series then began their regular Tuesday night 8:00pm airing on August 19, 2008 for its 13-week run. The single-camera satirical program revolves around a quintet of aspiring actors who land walk-on roles on television and their goals to break into the entertainment business. Series background The series takes aim at what people will do to make it in the world of television, whether they have talent or not, as it follows five individuals who are aiming for fame and fortune (and all the perks that come with it) as "Calefare," a word to describe actors who land small parts. Edmund Chen
Edmund Chen () (born 4 February 1961) is a Singaporean former actor and artist. He began his career in 1987 and rose to become one of Singapore's most prominent and popular actors during the 1990s and early 2000s. Career Chen entered the entertainment industry after completing the SBC (predecessor of MediaCorp) 7th drama training course in 1987. Fiona Xie
Fiona Xie (谢婉谕, Xie Wanyu; born 24 January 1982) is a Singaporean actress, variety show host, and was named as one of the Seven Princesses of Mediacorp in 2006. She was prominently a full-time Mediacorp artiste from 2001 to 2009. Priscelia Chan Shih Mei, also known as Zeng Shimei, is a Singaporean television actress and host. Career Chan was a tax auditor before taking part in Star Search Singapore 1999.
