Caleb Crone
Caleb Crone (29 November 1919 – 8 January 1958) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played as a left corner-back for club sides Air Corps and St Mary's, Saggart and was a member of the Dublin and Cork senior football teams from 1941 until 1948. Career Crone first came to Gaelic football prominence playing with the Air Corps club before linking up with St. Mary's in Saggart. He joined the Dublin senior football team in late 1941 before lining out in the 1942 All-Ireland final which saw Dublin claim their first title in 19 years after a 1-10 to 1-08 defeat of Galway. Crone later transferred to the Cork senior football team and collected a second winners' medal after their 2-05 to 0-07 win over Cavan. As a member of the Leinster and Munster inter-provincial teams at various times, he won two Railway Cup medals. Crone was posthumously named on the Cork Team of the Century. Railway Cup
The GAA Interprovincial Championship ( ga, An Corn Idir-Chúigeach) or Railway Cup (''Corn an Iarnróid'') is the name of two annual Gaelic football and hurling competitions held between the provinces of Ireland. The Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster GAA teams are composed of the best players from the counties in each province. The games are organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. The Railway Cup was a revival of the Railway Shield which ran from 1905 to 1907 (football) and from 1905 to 1908 (hurling). The first Railway Cup competitions (the name is due to the donation of the trophy by Irish Rail) were held in 1927, with Munster winning the first football title and Leinster winning the first hurling title. Presently, Ulster hold the record for the most football Railway Cup wins with 30, while Munster has won the most hurling titles with 43. The 1945 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was the 59th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county Gaelic football tournament. It was played at venues all over Ireland from 29 April to 23 September 1945. 31 teams entered, with Kilkenny GAA, Kilkenny once again declining to field a team. Roscommon GAA, Roscommon were the 1944 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, defending champions, however, they surrendered their title in their opening game, a Connacht semi-final defeat by Mayo GAA, Mayo. The 1941 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was the 55th staging of Ireland's premier Gaelic football knock-out competition. Kerry won their fifteenth title, moving ahead of in the all-time standings. Foot-and-mouth disease There was major disruption to the format of the 1941 championship due to a serious outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in many parts of Munster and south Leinster. The championship was run on a knockout provincial basis as usual; however, there was a certain amount of tweaking required to cope with the situation. Munster Senior Football Championship
The Munster Senior Football Championship, known simply as the Munster Championship and shortened to Munster SFC, is an annual inter-county Gaelic football competition organised by the Munster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county Gaelic football competition in the province of Munster, and has been contested every year, bar one, since the 1888 championship. The final, currently held on the fourth Saturday in June, serves as the culmination of a series of games played during May and June, and the results determine which team receives the Munster Cup. The All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC) ( ga, Craobh Shinsir Peile na hÉireann) is the premier competition in Gaelic football. An annual tournament organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), it is contested by the county teams in All-Ireland. The first tournament was held in 1887; it has been held every year since 1889. Each tournament ends with a final, played by the 35th Sunday of the year at Croke Park in Dublin, with the winning team receiving the Sam Maguire Cup. Cork (city)
Cork ( , from , meaning 'marsh') is the second largest city in Ireland and third largest city by population on the island of Ireland. It is located in the south-west of Ireland, in the province of Munster. Following an extension to the city's boundary in 2019, its population is over 222,000.
