Calca, South Australia
Calca is a small township around south-east of Streaky Bay, on the southern border of the Calpatanna Waterhole Conservation Park, Eyre Peninsula. The land was occupied by James Baird (for whom nearby Baird Bay was named), calling it "Kolka" (Aboriginal for 'stars'). Baird, also referred to as Henry Baird, was killed by Aborigines in 1850. A pastoral lease was held by Adam Borthwick from 10 February 1856 (lease no. 554). The postcode for Calca is 5671. Sceale Bay (formerly Yanera) (pronounced "Scale Bay") is a small town 32 km south of Streaky Bay on the Eyre Peninsula of South Australia. With a permanent population of only 28, the town's numbers increase by threefold over the summer holiday period. The town is primarily an isolated holiday destination, with nothing in the way of commerce or industry occurring in its bounds. Flinders is a single-member electoral district for the South Australian House of Assembly. It is named after explorer Matthew Flinders, who was responsible for charting most of the state's coastline. The 2016 Australian census was the 17th national population census held in Australia. The census was officially conducted with effect on Tuesday, 9 August 2016. The total population of the Commonwealth of Australia was counted as – an increase of 8.8 per cent or people over the . __NOTOC__ Baird Bay is a small fishing village located south of Streaky Bay on the west coast of Eyre Peninsula in South Australia. It is situated on the east coast of a bay named Baird Bay which opens into the north end of Anxious Bay. Nomenclature The locality is named after the nearby bay which was named after James Baird, who settled on the shores of Anxious Bay in 1850 before being speared by local Aboriginals on 2 November 1850. The bay was known as ''Beard's Bay'' until 5 December 1940 when it was renamed to ''Baird Bay'' by proclamation. Eyre Peninsula
The Eyre Peninsula is a triangular peninsula in South Australia. It is bounded by the Spencer Gulf on the east, the Great Australian Bight on the west, and the Gawler Ranges to the north. Originally called Eyre’s Peninsula, it was named after explorer Edward John Eyre, who explored parts of the peninsula in 1839–41. Calpatanna Waterhole Conservation Park
__NOTOC__ Calpatanna Waterhole Conservation Park is a protected area in the Australian state of South Australia located on the Eyre Peninsula in the gazetted localities of Calca, Mortana and Yanerbie about south-east of the town centre in Streaky Bay. The conservation park was proclaimed on 14 February 1974 under the state’s ''National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972'' in respect to land in sections 121, 122, 128, 129, 144, 179, 180 and 189 in the cadastral unit of the Hundred of Wrenfordsley. Land in sections 248 and 249 was added on 16 July 1985. Its name is derived from the Calpatanna Waterhole which is located within its boundaries. Streaky Bay (formerly Flinders) is a coastal town on the western side of the Eyre Peninsula, in South Australia just off the Flinders Highway, north-west of Port Lincoln and by road from Adelaide.
