Cajon Speedway
Cajon Speedway is a former oval race track near El Cajon, California. History Located between Gillespie Field and the San Vicente Freeway a 0.25 mile dirt oval track opened in 1961. Named Cajon Speedway the track expanded to a 0.375 mile dirt track in 1964. As of 1966 the 0.375 mile oval was paved. The track was founded by Earle Brucker Sr. who also founded El Cajon Stock Car Racing Association (ECSCRA). In 1978 the ECSCRA Super Stocks championship was won by Ron Esau. Between 1986 and 2004, local drivers also competed for the Whelen All-American Series crown. John Borneman Jr., father of Johnny Borneman III, won the track championship in 1992. Ricky Johnson won the track championship in 1995. In 2003, track owner Steve Brucker was murdered at his home in El Cajon. Brucker was able to call 911 before succumbing to his wounds at Sharp Memorial Hospital. Two men were charged with the murder which was the result of an attempted robbery. NASCAR Winston West Series
The ARCA Menards Series West, formerly the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West, NASCAR AutoZone West Series, NASCAR Winston West Series and NASCAR Camping World West Series, is a regional stock car racing series owned and operated by the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) and the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR). The series was first formed in 1954 as a proving ground for drivers from the western United States who could not travel to race in the more traditional stock car racing regions like North Carolina and the rest of the southern United States. In 1954, the series was formed under the name Pacific Coast Late Model circuit, with nine races on the schedule. Troy Beebe
Troy Beebe (born January 5, 1962) is an American former professional auto racing driver. He competed in the NASCAR Busch Series from 1990 to 1997. Racing career Winston Cup Series Beebe was born in Modesto, California. He made his debut in the premier NASCAR series in 1989, running one race at Sonoma in a car owned by his father. He put the No. 93 Taco Bell Buick into the field in 32nd. From there, he completed all but two laps en route to a 24th. Beebe would run four races in the series in 1990, switching between his family-owned car and those owned by D.K. Ulrich. He could not top his '89 running, only managing a best finish of 30th at Sonoma. His other three finishes were 37th, 31st and 35th. However, he did record his best career start at Michigan, starting in the 28th slot. Busch Series Beebe moved his team to the Busch Series, where they ran 23 races in 1991. Mike Chase (born April 17, 1952) is an American former stock car racing driver. Winner of the 1994 series championship in the NASCAR Winston West Series, he has also competed in the Winston Cup Series, Busch Series, and Craftsman Truck Series and currently works for Penske Racing as a crewman. NASCAR Southwest Series
The NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division, Southwest Series (originally NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Tour) was a late model stock car racing series sanctioned by NASCAR that was held in the Southwestern United States. The original NASCAR Southwest Tour began in 1985 and ran until NASCAR discontinued the Elite Division in 2006. The cars feature a perimeter frame chassis where rails of equal lengths must kick out, compared to the more modern offset chassis where one side is straight and one side kicks out. They weigh 2,900 pounds and have a fiberglass body. Ronald Lee Hornaday Jr. (born June 20, 1958) is an American former professional stock car racing driver. He is the father of former NASCAR driver Ronnie Hornaday and son of the late Ron Hornaday Sr., a two-time Winston West Champion. Hornaday is a four-time champion in the Camping World Truck Series, his most recent coming in 2009. He was a long-time driver in NASCAR's Winston West Series and is a Featherlite Southwest Tour Champion. Richard Dean Carelli (born November 9, 1954) is a retired American race car driver from Arvada, Colorado. He was nicknamed the "High Plains Drifter". He won multiple times in the No. 6 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series truck. He is the spotter for Erik Jones in the NASCAR Cup Series. Racing career Carelli won the NASCAR Southwest Tour championship in 1991 and won 21 times in the series during his career. He joined the NASCAR Winston West Series in 1992, and he was named the series Rookie of the Year. He returned to the series in 1993, capturing the series championship and Most Popular Driver award.
