Caereinion High School () is an 11–18 mixed, bilingual community secondary school and sixth form in Llanfair Caereinion, Powys, Wales. It was established in 1894. Spanish and French are offered up to A-Level, and A-Level students are also given the option of learning either Italian, German, Russian or Mandarin through the Welsh Baccalaureate Qualification scheme, a qualification which is designed to enhance Welsh pupils' key skills and appreciation of the country's heritage and history. 54% of the pupils are fluent Welsh speakers according to the latest Estyn inspection report. The school closed in August 2022 and reopened as Ysgol Bro Caereinion, a new 3-18 school. Academics The school has excelled in examination results, both at GCSE and A-Level. Llanfair Caereinion
Llanfair Caereinion is a market town and community in Montgomeryshire, Powys, Wales upon the River Banwy (also known as the River Einion), around 8 miles west of Welshpool. In 2011 the ward had a population of 1,810; the town itself had a population of 1,055 according to Nomis. History Its name is a combination of Welsh ' "church" + ' "Mary" and ' "fort" + ', a personal name, meaning "the church of Mary tthe fort of Einion". The town is built upon the site of an old Roman fort. The site of the Battle of Maes Moydog (1295) is nearby. In 1758 the town was almost completely wiped out by a major fire. Geography The town is close to Welshpool and not far away are the towns of Machynlleth and Llanfyllin. Welshpool High School
Welshpool High School is located in Welshpool, Powys. It is a combined secondary school and sixth form, catering for pupils aged 11 to 19. In 2022, a new headteacher was appointed. Motto and the school The school's motto is ''Raising Achievement By Raising Expectations''. It was described as "A very good school with many outstanding features" in a 2004 Estyn report. The school was rated "Good" in a 2017 Estyn report. Helen Mary Jones
Helen Mary Jones (born 29 June 1960) is a Welsh Plaid Cymru politician, who was a member of the Senedd from 1999 to 2011 and again from August 2018 until 29 April 2021. Background Jones was born in Colchester, Essex. She was educated at Colchester County High School for Girls, Caereinion High School in Powys and the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, where she was awarded an honours degree in history and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education. She has taught in the special education field and has held various positions in youth, community and social work. Official Harpist To The Prince Of Wales
The Official Harpist to the Prince of Wales is a position within the Royal Household. In 2000, King Charles III, the then Prince of Wales, revived a tradition of having Welsh harpists, which was the first time the post has been occupied since it was last granted to John Thomas in 1871 by Queen Victoria. The harp is an important national instrument in Wales, and although the role of Official Harpist was discontinued during the reign of Queen Victoria, the Prince of Wales restored the position in 2000 in order to foster and encourage young musical talent in Wales and the UK and to raise the profile of the harp as an instrument. On 5 July 2006, the Prince of Wales was presented with a £150,000 gold leaf harp from harp maker Victor Salvi of the Italian harp makers Salvi Harps. The harp is used by the official harpist. Alis Huws
Alis Huws is a Welsh harpist from Powys, the sixth and current Official Harpist to the Prince of Wales. Education Huws is from Foel near Llanfair Caereinion in Powys, where she attended Ysgol Uwchradd Caereinion. Having received harp lessons at school, she continued her studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, where she has since graduated with both undergraduate and master's degrees. Whilst there, she was awarded the Midori Matsui Prize for music, the Royal Welch Fusiliers Harp Prize and the McGrennery Chamber Music Prize. Coleg Powys
Coleg Powys was a further education establishment in the County of Powys, Mid Wales. It had main campuses at Brecon, Llandrindod Wells and Newtown and a major outreach centre at Ystradgynlais. Llanfyllin High School
Llanfyllin High School (''Ysgol Uwchradd Llanfyllin'') is a bilingual secondary school situated in the mid-Wales town of Llanfyllin. It currently has around 1000 pupils drawn from the town and the surrounding area. About a quarter of the pupils live across the English border in Shropshire. As a bilingual school, Llanfyllin High School has a Welsh language stream in which most subjects are taught in Welsh, and an English language stream in which most subjects are taught in English.
