Cadyn Grenier
Cadyn Thomas Grenier (born October 31, 1996) is an American professional baseball shortstop in the Baltimore Orioles organization. He played college baseball for the Oregon State Beavers. Career Amateur career Grenier attended Bishop Gorman High School in Summerlin, Nevada. As a senior in 2015, he batted .472 with six home runs, 35 RBIs, and 66 runs scored and was named the Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year for the state of Nevada. He was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 21st round of the 2015 MLB draft, but he did not sign and then enrolled at Oregon State University to play for the Oregon State Beavers. As a freshman at Oregon State in 2016, Grenier played in 52 games with 49 starts, hitting .240 with 18 RBIs along with an on-base percentage of .342. After the 2016 season, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod Baseball League. Shortstop
Shortstop, abbreviated SS, is the baseball or softball fielding position between second and third base, which is considered to be among the most demanding defensive positions. Historically the position was assigned to defensive specialists who were typically poor at batting and were often placed at the bottom of the batting order. Today, shortstops are often able to hit well and many are placed at the top of the lineup. In the numbering system used by scorers to record defensive plays, the shortstop is assigned the number 6. More hit balls go to the shortstop than to any other position, as there are more right-handed hitters in baseball than left-handed hitters, and most hitters have a tendency to pull the ball slightly. Brooks Wallace Award
The Brooks Wallace Award is an award given by the College Baseball Foundation (CBF) to the best college baseball shortstop of the year. The award has been given annually since 2004. Until 2008 the award was presented to the nation's most outstanding player; however, in 2009 the recipient list was changed to only include shortstops. It is named after former Texas Tech shortstop and assistant coach Brooks Wallace, who died of cancer in 1985 at the age of 27. Frederick Keys
The Frederick Keys are a collegiate summer baseball team of the MLB Draft League. The Keys are based in Frederick, Maryland. The franchise is named for "Star-Spangled Banner" writer Francis Scott Key, a native of Frederick County. A new team mascot "Frank Key", short for Francis Scott Key, joined the current mascot, a coyote named ''Keyote'', at the beginning of the 2011 baseball season. The Keys were purchased from Maryland Baseball Holding, LLC by Attain Sports and Entertainment in January 2022. Home games are played at Harry Grove Stadium. The South Atlantic League, often informally called the Sally League, is a Minor League Baseball league with teams predominantly in states along the Atlantic coast of the United States from New York to Georgia. The Delmarva Shorebirds are a Minor League Baseball team based in Salisbury, Maryland. They are members of the Carolina League and the Single-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles.
