Cadmus N. Bray House
Cadmus N. Bray House is a historic house located at 229 West Second Street in Siler City, North Carolina, Siler City, Chatham County, North Carolina. James W. Turner, a local builder, constructed the house, and it remains a nearly unaltered representative of early 20th century architectural preferences in a small North Carolina rail town. Description and history The -story, Queen Anne style architecture, Queen Anne/Colonial Revival architecture, Colonial Revival style timber-framed residence was built in 1906 for Siler City businessman and town mayor, Cadmus Bray. It features multiple bay projections covered by a steeply pitched and cross-gabled hipped roof surmounted by a square frame baluster, balustrade and a wraparound porch. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 30, 1999. Siler City, North Carolina
Siler City is a town in western Chatham County, North Carolina, United States. As of the 2020 census, the town's population was 7,702. History Siler City began when Plikard Dederic Siler and his wife, Elizabeth Hartsoe Siler, settled about four miles north of the town's current location. They had met aboard the ''Two Sisters'', a ship from Germany. The ship landed in Philadelphia, where Plikard paid leaf tobacco to marry Elizabeth. The couple briefly lived in Pennsylvania, then Virginia, and then settled near Lacy's Creek (the location near today's Siler City). They had ten children. In recent years, Siler City has become a suburb of Greensboro and the Research Triangle Park. Since 1997, it has developed as a center of industrial-scale poultry processing, and attracted numerous immigrants and Latinos for the jobs. The Queen Anne style of British architecture refers to either the English Baroque architecture of the time of Queen Anne (who reigned from 1702 to 1714) or the British Queen Anne Revival form that became popular during the last quarter of the 19th century and the early decades of the 20th century. The Colonial Revival architectural style seeks to revive elements of American colonial architecture. The beginnings of the Colonial Revival style are often attributed to the Centennial Exhibition of 1876, which reawakened Americans to the architectural traditions of their colonial past. Fairly small numbers of Colonial Revival homes were built c. 1880–1910, a period when Queen Anne-style architecture was dominant in the United States.
