Cabinet Of Sabah
The Cabinet of Sabah is a part of the executive arm of the Government of Sabah, Malaysia. The Cabinet consists of the Chief Minister, appointed by the List of Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sabah, Governor on the basis that he is able to command a majority in the Sabah State Legislative Assembly, and 10 other ministers made up of members of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly. This Cabinet is similar in structure and role to Cabinet of Malaysia, that of federal level, while being smaller in size. As federal and state responsibilities differ, there are a number of portfolios that differ between the federal and state governments. Members of the Cabinet are selected by the List of Chief Ministers of Sabah, Chief Minister, and appointed by the List of Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sabah, Governor. The present coat of arms of Sabah is largely based on the coat of arms of the Crown Colony of North Borneo under British Empire, British colonial rule and the state coat of arms first granted on 31 August 1963. 2004 Sabah State Election
The 2004 Sabah state election was held on Sunday, 21 March 2004, concurrently with the 2004 Malaysian general election. This election featured 12 new state seats increasing the total seats from 48 to 60. There was also an additional three parliament seats in Sabah following the 2003 delineation of electoral boundaries. The Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition comprehensively won this election after the only major opposition party in Sabah, Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) re-joined the BN coalition in 2002. Results Barisan Nasional won 59 out of 60 state seats. Out of the 59 seats won, 8 seats was won uncontested. One state seat was won by independent candidate Johan Ghani in Kuala Penyu. Hajiji Cabinet
The Hajiji cabinet took office on 29 September 2020, three days after the 2020 Sabah State Election. The cabinet consists of ministers and assistant ministers from the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), the dissidents of Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH). BN led by then Deputy Chief Minister and State Minister of Works Bung Moktar Radin withdrew in January 2023, causing a political crisis. 2020 Sabah State Election
The 2020 Sabah state election took place on 26 September 2020 to elect all 73 elected members of the 16th Sabah State Legislative Assembly. The previous Assembly was dissolved on 30 July 2020. The state snap election was called prematurely after a political crisis arose. Both Shafie Apdal, incumbent Chief Minister and leader of Sabah Heritage Party (WARISAN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition government and Musa Aman, leader of Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition opposition claimed to have the majority to form the government. 2018 Sabah State Election
The 2018 Sabah state election took place on 9 May 2018 in concurrence with the 14th Malaysian general election. This election was to elect 60 members of the 15th Sabah State Legislative Assembly. The previous Assembly was dissolved on 7 April 2018. Barisan Nasional (BN), with the most seats, would be able to form a minority government alone. But BN and Homeland Solidarity Party (STAR) decided to form a group of 31 seats, which would allow them to form a coalition government. Musa Aman reinstalled as Chief Minister on 10 May 2018. 2013 Sabah State Election
The 2013 Sabah state election was held on Sunday, 5 May 2013 concurrently with the 13th Malaysian general election. 60 state seats were contested to elect state legislature in the Malaysian state of Sabah. This was the 12th state election in Sabah. The state legislative assembly was dissolved on 3 April 2013 following the announcement by Najib Razak to dissolve the federal Parliament earlier on the same day. Sabahans will also elect 25 representatives to the federal legislature which will be covered as part of the general election. The 2008 election was won by the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition winning 59 out 60 seats. After the 2008 election, the Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) withdrew from the BN coalition resulting in 2 state seats to move out of BN. 2008 Sabah State Election
The 2008 Sabah state election was held on Saturday, 8 March 2008, simultaneously with the 12th general election of Malaysia. 60 state assembly seats were contested. The election was won by the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition with a similar number of seats won as in the previous election, where they won 59 seats. One seat was won by Democratic Action Party (DAP). In the previous election, BN won 59 seats, while one seat was won by an independent candidate. Other parties contesting in this election are Democratic Action Party, Parti Keadilan Rakyat, BERSEKUTU, Pasok, Setia, and 47 independent candidates. The 25 parliamentary seats were also contested the same time.
