Executive (government)
The Executive, also referred as the Executive branch or Executive power, is the term commonly used to describe that part of government which enforces the law, and has overall responsibility for the governance of a state. In political systems based on the separation of powers, such as the USA, government authority is distributed between several branches in order to prevent power being concentrated in the hands of a single person or group. To achieve this, each branch is subject to checks by the other two; in general, the role of the Legislature is to pass laws, which are then enforced by the Executive, and interpreted by the Judiciary. Liku, Niue
Liku is one of the fourteen villages of Niue, located close to the easternmost part of the island. It lies due east of the capital, Alofi, and its population at the 2017 census was 98. Geography Liku is connected to the capital by a road which traverses the centre of the island. It is also - along with Lakepa, six kilometres to the north and Hakupu, 10 kilometres to the south - one of three villages on the east coast road which connects Vaiea in the south with Mutalau on the north coast. Administration Liku is one of the fourteen constituencies in Niue, electing one representative to the Niue Assembly. Dalton Emani Makamau Tagelagi (born 5 June 1968) is a Niuean politician and Premier of Niue since June 2020. He was elected premier by the Niue Legislative Assembly on 11 June 2020, defeating O'Love Jacobsen by 13 votes to 7. Avatele
Avatele, formerly known as Oneonepata Matavaihala, is one of the fourteen villages of Niue, located on the southwest coast, with a population of 143 residents as of 2017. Geography Avatele Beach, the village's main sea track, stretches along the coast of Avatele Bay and is the largest and most well-known beach on the island. Although the sand is mostly of the coarse kind it is an important swimming and picnic site for both tourists and residents. Prior to the construction of the Sir Robert Rex Wharf and Hannan International Airport in Alofi, Avatele Beach was the principal landing place for many visitors to the island. Billy Talagi
Billy Graham Talagi is a Niuean politician and former Member of the Niue Assembly. Career Talagi was first elected to the Niue Assembly in a 1997 by-election. He has represented the village of Avatele in the Niue Assembly continuously since 1999. In 2005, 2008, and 2014 he was elected unopposed. In 2014 he was made Minister of Natural Resources in the Cabinet of Toke Talagi. In 2017 he was made Minister for Education and Social Services. In 2019 he served as Acting Prime Minister while Toke Talagi was receiving medical treatment in New Zealand. In May 2018 Talagi was discharged without conviction after pleading guilty to assaulting MP Terry Coe outside the Niuean Assembly. He contested the common roll in the 2020 Niuean general election but failed to win a seat. Joan Sisiati Tahafa Viliamu (22 March 1966 – 25 November 2022) was a Niuean politician and Cabinet minister. Viliamu was born in Tuapa and educated at Matalave Primary School and Niue High School Intermediate. She worked as a public servant and businesswoman before being elected to the Niue Assembly on the common roll at the 2011 election. Following the election she was appointed to Cabinet as Minister of Health, the Community Sector, and Minister for the Niue Broadcasting Corporation.
