Cabinet Weil
The Cabinet Weil I was the state government of the German state of Lower Saxony from 19 February 2013 until 22 November 2017. The Cabinet was headed by Minister President Stephan Weil and was formed by the Social Democratic Party and the Alliance '90/The Greens, after Weil's winning of the 2013 Lower Saxony state election. On 19 February 2013, Weil was elected and sworn in as Minister President by the Landtag of Lower Saxony. At the beginning of August 2017, the government lost its one-vote majority when Elke Twesten, a member of the Greens, left the parliamentary group. Minister President Of Lower Saxony
The Minister-President of Lower Saxony (german: Ministerpräsident des Landes Niedersachsen), also referred to as Premier or Prime Minister, is the head of government of the German state of Lower Saxony. The position was created in 1946, when the states of Brunswick, Oldenburg, Schaumburg-Lippe and the State of Hanover were merged to form the state of Lower Saxony. The current Minister President is Stephan Weil, heading a coalition government between the Social Democrats and the CDU. Weil succeeded David McAllister following the 2013 state election. The office of the Minister President is known as the State Chancellery (german: Staatskanzlei), and is located in the capital of Hanover, along with the rest of the cabinet departments. Lower Saxony (german: Niedersachsen ; nds, Neddersassen; stq, Läichsaksen) is a German state (') in northwestern Germany. Christian Meyer (born 23 July 1975) is a German politician of the Alliance '90/The Greens who has been serving as State Minister for Environment, Energy and Climate Protection in the cabinet of Minister-President of Lower Saxony Stephan Weil since 2022. Olaf Lies (born 8 May 1967) is a German politician of the Social Democratic Party (SPD). He was first elected to the Landtag of Lower Saxony in 2008. Political career Lies joined the Social Democratic Party in 2002. In the 2008 state elections he became member of the Landtag of Lower Saxony. He was leader of his party in Lower Saxony from 2010 to 2012. Gabriele Heinen-Kljajic (born 28 May 1962 in Gemünd) is a German politician for the Alliance '90/The Greens. Political career Heinen-Kljajic was elected to the Lower Saxon Landtag in 2003 state elections, and has been re-elected in 2008 and 2013. On February 19, 2013, she was sworn in as State Minister for Science and Culture in the government of Minister-President Stephan Weil. Boris Pistorius (; born 14 March 1960) is a German lawyer and politician of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) who has been serving as the German Federal Minister of Defence since 19 January 2023 in the Scholz cabinet. He had previously been State Minister for Interior and Sports in the state government of Lower Saxony since 2013. He served in the State Parliament of Lower Saxony from 2017, until his position as Federal Minister in 2023. 2017 Lower Saxony State Election
The 2017 Lower Saxony state election was held on 15 October 2017 to elect the 18th Landtag of Lower Saxony. The incumbent coalition government of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and The Greens led by Minister-President Stephan Weil was defeated. Though the SPD became the largest party in the Landtag largely fueled by the personal popularity of Weil, their gains were offset by losses for the Greens, depriving the government of its majority. The SPD subsequently formed a grand coalition with the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), and Weil continued as Minister-President. This was the last election, state or federal, in which the SPD gained seats or increased their share of the popular vote until the 2021 German federal election and 2021 Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state election which both took place on the same day in September 2021. Elke Twesten
Elke Twesten (born July 7, 1963 in Scheeßel) is a German politician for the Christian Democratic Union of Germany, CDU in Lower Saxony who switched parties from the Alliance 90/The Greens in 2017. Career Twesten previously worked in the Hamburg Customs Administration. She was elected to the Lower Saxon Landtag in 2008. Since 2013, she has been Secretary of the Landtag. She is also spokesperson for women in the parliament. Twesten defected to the CDU from the Greens in August 2017, thus depriving the Lower Saxony Parliament's SDP/Green coalition of its one-seat majority and triggering an early election in 2017 Lower Saxony state election, October 2017.
