CPR News
Colorado Public Radio (CPR) is a public radio state network based in Denver, Colorado that broadcasts three services: news, classical music and Indie 102.3, which plays adult album alternative music. CPR airs its programming on 15 full-power stations, augmented by 17 translators. Their combined signal reaches 80 percent of Colorado. CPR also manages KRCC, the NPR member station in Colorado Springs, in partnership with the station's owner, Colorado College. As of 2013, CPR had 440,000 weekly listeners, 47,000 contributing members and annual revenue of $14 million. In early-March 2019, CPR acquired hyperlocal news site Denverite from Spirited Media to bolster its web news coverage for locals. CPR is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization. Grand Junction is a home rule municipality that is the county seat and the most populous municipality of Mesa County, Colorado, United States. The city population was 65,560 at the 2020 United States Census, making Grand Junction the 17th most populous Colorado municipality and the most populous city in western Colorado. KKPC (1230 AM) is a radio station licensed to Pueblo, Colorado. The station is owned by Mountain Radio Group, through licensee Colorado Radio Marketing, LLC. KKPC signed on in February 1948 as KDZA, which from around 1962 until the mid-1980s was Pueblo's AM Top 40 outlet. KCFC (1490 AM) is a radio station licensed to Boulder, Colorado. The station is owned by Colorado Public Radio (CPR), and airs CPR's "Colorado News" network, originating from KCFR-FM in Denver, Colorado. The station signed on in 1947 as KBOL. Herb Hollister was President, and Russ Shaffer was vice president and general manager. Shaffer acquired majority interest in the station in 1953. Hank Brown
George Hanks "Hank" Brown (born February 12, 1940) is an American politician and lawyer from Colorado. He is a former Republican politician and U.S. Senator. He served as the 21st president of the University of Colorado system from April 2005 to January 2008. Education Brown was born in Denver in 1940, and graduated from college in 1961 and from law school in 1969, both from the University of Colorado. Brown also has a Master of Laws degree from George Washington University. At the former, he became a member of Delta Tau Delta International Fraternity. Career Military Brown served in the United States Navy from 1962 to 1966. He was an aviator and volunteered for service in Vietnam. KUNC (91.5 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a News/Talk public radio format. Licensed to Greeley, Colorado, United States, it serves Northern Colorado, including Fort Collins and Greeley. The station is owned and operated by Community Radio for Northern Colorado, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. History KUNC began operations January 6, 1967 at the University of Northern Colorado as KCBL. It became KUNC on May 1, 1970. During the Fall of 2000, UNC put the station up for sale in an effort to save money. Colorado Public Radio in Denver agreed to purchase the station; it had been looking to expand its offerings to Northern Colorado for some time. The University of Northern Colorado (UNC) is a public university in Greeley, Colorado. The university was founded in 1889 as the State Normal School of Colorado and has a long history in teacher education. The institution has officially changed its name three times, first to Colorado State College of Education, at Greeley on February 16, 1935, Colorado State College on February 11, 1957, and its current form since May 1, 1970. KVOD (88.1 MHz) is a public radio station broadcasting a classical music format. Licensed to Lakewood, Colorado, it serves the Denver metropolitan area. The station is owned by Public Broadcasting Of Colorado. Its programming is broadcast on other stations around Colorado including 91.9 KCFP in Pueblo, 103.3 KPRU in Delta (serving the Grand Junction and Montrose areas), and 90.5 KVOV in Glenwood Springs. KDNK
KDNK (88.1 FM) is a community access station broadcasting an eclectic format of music and local news in western Colorado in the United States. The station serves Carbondale, Aspen, Glenwood Springs, and other parts of the Roaring Fork Valley and beyond through its main transmitter and a series of mountain-top translators stretching from Vail to Leadville. The station is owned by Carbondale Community Access Radio, Inc. Station history The original idea for KDNK came from Lee Swidler, who placed an ad in the local newspapers looking for volunteers to help start a community radio station. Among the first to volunteer were Bruce Stolbach, Bill Phillips, Brian Vancil, Jim Groh, Brenda Jochems, Pat Noel, Wick Moses, and Marple Lewis, who met in Swidler's locksmith shop at night to plan their strategy.
