COVID-19 Pandemic In Turkmenistan
As of 16 January 2023, Turkmenistan is the only remaining sovereign country in the world that has not reported any cases of COVID-19. There are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Turkmenistan with the totalitarian government being proactive in censoring relevant information. It is however suspected to have spread in the country unreported; specifics are difficult to ascertain and confirm in absence of independent media. 2020 developments Travel restrictions On 31 January 2020, Turkmenistan Airlines announced the suspension of flights to Bangkok and Beijing and organised charter flights for Turkmen citizens there. On 29 February, Turkmenistan began refusing the entry of citizens from countries affected by the virus. On 5 March, three foreign travellers, two of them diplomats of an Arab country, were denied entry when they flew from Almaty, Kazakhstan. Coronavirus Disease 2019
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a contagious disease caused by a virus, the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The first known case was identified in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. The disease quickly spread worldwide, resulting in the COVID-19 pandemic. The symptoms of COVID‑19 are variable but often include fever, cough, headache, fatigue, breathing difficulties, loss of smell, and loss of taste. Symptoms may begin one to fourteen days after exposure to the virus. At least a third of people who are infected do not develop noticeable symptoms. Turkmenabat International Airport
Turkmenabat International Airport ( tk, ), is an international airport in Türkmenabat, Turkmenistan. It is located approximately 13 km from the center of the city. History The original airport was opened in 1926 and was repeatedly reconstructed. Radical reconstruction took place during the years of independence of Turkmenistan. The former airport was equipped with a modern air navigation system along with a platform for automated fueling. The runway was also extended. New airport In 2013 construction started on a new airport complex south of downtown Turkmenabat. The ceremony of laying the first stone on 14 February 2013 was attended by President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. World Bicycle Day
In April 2018, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 3 as International World Bicycle Day. The resolution for World Bicycle Day recognizes "the uniqueness, longevity and versatility of the bicycle, which has been in use for two centuries, and that it is a simple, affordable, reliable, clean and environmentally fit sustainable means of transport." Founding Professor Leszek Sibilski (who is a Polish social scientist working in the United States) led a grassroots campaign with his sociology class to promote a UN Resolution for World Bicycle Day, eventually gaining the support of Turkmenistan and 56 other countries. World Health Day is a global health awareness day celebrated every year on 7 April, under the sponsorship of the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as other related organizations. The 2020 Turkmenistan Higher League (Ýokary Liga) season is the 28th season Turkmenistan's professional football league, the highest football league competition in Turkmenistan.
