CLG Ard An Rátha
CLG Ard an Rátha is a GAA club based in Ardara in County Donegal. The ''Ard an Rátha'' in the club's title is the place name in Irish, while ''CLG'' refers to "GAA". They are one of the strongholds of Gaelic football in Donegal. History The club was founded on 21 October 1921. One of their county's more successful teams, they have won the Donegal Senior Football Championship on 6 occasions. Their most recent success was in 2004. The team is perhaps most famous at national level for being the home club of Anthony Molloy, the first Donegal senior captain to lift the Sam Maguire Cup. Paddy McGrath, a member of the 2012 All-Ireland SFC winning county team, currently plays for them. McGrath, along with Ardara teammates Conor Classon and Peter McNelis, was part of the Donegal under-21 squad which qualified for the 2010 All-Ireland Under-21 Football Championship final. The ''Donegal News'' (also known as ''Derry People/Donegal News'' and formerly ''Derry People'') is a twice-weekly local newspaper in the northwest of the island of Ireland, first published in 1902. Originally covering Derry, Northern Ireland, it moved across the border to Letterkenny, County Donegal, at the beginning of the Second World War and took on more of a Donegal focus. Donegal Junior Football Championship
The Donegal Junior Football Championship (abbreviated as Donegal JFC) is an annual football competition organised by Donegal GAA. Na Dúnaibh are the title holders (2022) defeating Letterkenny Gaels in the Final. History The competition has been won by 44 clubs, 23 of which have won it more than once. Castlefinn Robert Emmet's are the most successful club with seven titles to their credit. Donegal county team manager Declan Bonner brought national attention to the competition when he lined out for his club Na Rossa in 2019, notably making saves while playing as goalkeeper when his team's regular goalkeeper transferred to New York. New York County Football Team
The New York county football team represents the New York metropolitan area in men's Gaelic football and is governed by New York GAA, the County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. All-Ireland Under-21 Football Championship
The GAA Football Under-20 All-Ireland Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the EirGrid GAA Football Under-20 All-Ireland Championship) is an annual inter-county Gaelic football competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition for male players between the ages of 17 and 20 in Ireland. The championship was contested as the All-Ireland Under-21 Championship between 1964 and 2017 before changing to an under-20 age category from 2018. The final, usually held in August, serves as the culmination of a series of games played during the summer months, and the results determine which team receives the Clarke Cup. Martin Gavigan
Martin Gavigan is an old Gaelic footballer who played as a defender for Ard an Rátha, the Donegal county team and the Ireland international rules football team. He was a member of Donegal's 1992 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship winning team. He played for the county from 1988 until 1995. He played against Armagh in the 1990 Ulster final, won by Donegal. He started at centre-back in the 1992 All-Ireland Final as Donegal defeated Dublin by a scoreline of 0–18 to 0–14. He would win an All Star in 1992 too. Known as "Rambo", he was a schoolteacher. In 1992, ''Hogan Stand'' was able to indicate that: "Even objective observers of the game in Donegal recognised that the Shovlin, Gavigan and Reid combination probably represented the best line of defence in the country. The All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC) ( ga, Craobh Shinsir Peile na hÉireann) is the premier competition in Gaelic football. An annual tournament organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), it is contested by the county teams in All-Ireland. The first tournament was held in 1887; it has been held every year since 1889. Each tournament ends with a final, played by the 35th Sunday of the year at Croke Park in Dublin, with the winning team receiving the Sam Maguire Cup. Ulster Senior Football Championship
The Ulster Senior Football Championship is an inter-county competition for Gaelic football teams in the province of Ulster. It is organised by the Ulster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) and begins in early May. The final is usually played on the third Sunday in July. All nine Ulster counties participate. It is regarded as hardest to win of the four provincial football championships. At a referee conference in January 2015, David Coldrick said about officiating in the competition: "Ulster makes or breaks you. It can be a graveyard. The games are different. Damian Diver
Damian Diver (born 1973/4) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played for Ard an Rátha and the Donegal county team. He played at half-back for his county. He made 120 appearances, 36 of which were championship, for the team between 1995 and 2006. He was noted for owning his own gym equipment in a time before this was commonplace. Playing career Club and college Diver twice won the Donegal Senior Football Championship with his club. He took a free that led to the goal scored during the 2004 final.
