CKNX (AM)
CKNX is a Canadian radio station, which broadcasts at 920 AM in Wingham, Ontario. The station broadcasts a classic country music & news format. CKNX is also an affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays radio network. History Launch The station was originally launched in 1926 as an informal broadcasting experiment by local businessmaW. T. Cruickshank who aired live and unscripted programming provided by customers of his repair shop. In its original incarnation, the station was simply known as Joke, but proved so popular that Cruickshank applied for an amateur broadcasting license and the station formally became 10BP by 1930. In 1935, the station was officially licensed as commercial radio station CKNX, on 1200 AM. CKNX was affiliated with CBC Radio's Dominion Network until 1962. In 2003, the CRTC denied the application by Blackburn Radio. In 2004, Blackburn Radio was given approval to operate a new FM radio station at Wingham. The station was launched on April 1, 2005 by Blackburn Radio with the branding ''94.5 The Bull''. The station's transmitter is located near Formosa, and it broadcasts the signal with an effective radiated power of 75,000 watts. The station is co-located with sister stations CKNX and CKNX-FM. CKNX-TV
CKNX-TV was a television station owned by CTVglobemedia (now known as Bell Media) which served mid-western Ontario, Canada. It was part of the A television system. The station's offices, studios, and transmission facilities were located in Wingham. A bureau in Owen Sound closed down in late 2004. In February 2009, CTV announced it would not renew CKNX's broadcast licence for the 2009-2010 television season and put the station up for sale. In April 2009, CTV announced a deal to sell the station along with two other sister stations in Windsor and Brandon to Shaw Communications for a dollar; however, the deal was rejected in June. Circle 8 Ranch
From 1955 until 1978, ''Circle 8 Ranch'' was a weekly country and western television program broadcast each Tuesday night on Wingham, Ontario's CKNX, Channel 8. It began as a radio program called the ''CKNX Barn Dance'' on CKNX's AM sister station. The half-hour variety show was first hosted by broadcaster Johnny Brent, then later by musician Ernie King. The program featured popular country acts of the local, provincial and national stage. Each program ended with the words "Let's say goodbye like we said hello, in a friendly kind of way..." Don Robertson's Ranch Boys hosted many CKNX Barn Dances in the south-central and southwestern Ontario areas. The travelling show was an offshoot of the program. Regular cast members who developed into regional celebrities were Ernie King, Hugh Elder, Ross Mann, Don Robertson, Cora Robertson, Wayne Riehl and Ron Coulthard.
