CJUK-FM is a Canadian radio station, broadcasting at 99.9 FM in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The station broadcasts a classic hits format branded as "99.9 The Bay" and is owned by Acadia Broadcasting. History The station was first licensed as a low-power station by the CRTC in 2000, and launched in August 2001 with an ERP of just 37 watts. The station was branded as ''Magic 99.9''. In 2003, the station's owners, Big Pond Communications, applied to the CRTC to increase the station's signal to 15,000 watts, on the grounds that with a signal that could not adequately reach some parts of the city, the station was economically not viable. However, the CRTC determined that in the previous year's BBM ratings, there was no evidence that the station's audience had geographic gaps in the city. CKTG-FM is a Canadian radio station, broadcasting at 105.3 FM broadcasting, FM in Thunder Bay, Ontario, owned by Acadia Broadcasting. The station broadcasts a country music, country format using the on-air brand name as ''Country 105''. History The station was launched in 1944 as CFPA at 1230 kHz, an AM broadcasting, AM Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's Dominion Network station owned by local businessman Ralph Parker. When the Dominion Network dissolved in 1962, CFPA transferred its affiliation to the main CBC Radio network. It ceased airing CBC programming in 1972, adopting a country music format. Acadia Broadcasting Radio Stations
Acadia (french: link=no, Acadie) was a colony of New France in northeastern North America which included parts of what are now the Maritime provinces, the Gaspé Peninsula and Maine to the Kennebec River. During much of the 17th and early 18th centuries, Norridgewock on the Kennebec River and Castine at the end of the Penobscot River were the southernmost settlements of Acadia. History The station was launched in October 1948 as CKPR-FM, an FM simulcast of CKPR. The station appears to have launched distinct programming in the fall of 1975, the same year the callsign was changed to CJSD-FM. Throughout the 1980s, the station repeatedly received only short-term license renewals due to regulatory violations, including its musical selections, its failure to comply with CRTC rules around spoken word programming, and its failure to submit logger tapes of its programming to the commission. |

CKPR-FM is a radio station in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. Owned by Dougall Media, the station broadcasts a hot adult contemporary format at 91.5 FM, and 93.5 FM in Atikokan, Ontario. History The station was originally launched in Midland in 1927. It was purchased by the Dougall Motor Car Company in 1931, and moved to Fort William. The station originally aired at 890 AM, moving to 780 in 1933, 930 in 1935, 730 in 1938 and finally 580 in 1941. The station became an affiliate of the CBC's Trans-Canada Network in 1947 and then an affiliate of CBC Radio in 1962. In 1948, the station's owners launched an FM simulcast on CKPR-FM. In 1962, the owners also acquired CFPA-TV, the city's CBC Television affiliate, which then adopted the CKPR callsign as well. In 2006, Dougall applied to change the station's frequency to 91.5 FM.
