CHER-FM
CHER-FM is a Canadian radio station broadcasting from Sydney, Nova Scotia, at 98.3 FM broadcasting, FM. The station broadcasts a classic rock format branded as ''Max 98.3'', although some current rock music, rock songs can be played on this station. The station is owned and operated by the Maritime Broadcasting System. The station hit the airwaves in December 1965, broadcasting at 950 AM until June 11, 2007 when it officially switched to 98.3 FM. On August 11, 2006, the station received CRTC approval to convert to the FM dial which officially occurred at 10:00 a.m. on June 11, 2007; the final song played before the official switchover was "The Long and Winding Road" by The Beatles. The FM signal had a brief testing period before the switch, playing a wide variety of rock music, rock, pop music, pop and oldies songs. CKPE-FM is a Canadian radio station broadcasting from Sydney, Nova Scotia at 94.9 FM. The station broadcasts a classic hits format branded as ''94.9 The Wave''. The station has been on the air since 1957 under the original call sign CJCB-FM. The station is owned and operated by the Maritime Broadcasting System. CJCB and CHER-FM are its sister stations. Every weekend, CKPE plays vintage '' American Top 40'' countdown shows hosted by Casey Kasem, one from the 1980s every Saturday morning, and one from the 1970s every Sunday morning. "The Long and Winding Road" is a song by the English rock band the Beatles from their 1970 album ''Let It Be''. It was written by Paul McCartney and credited to Lennon–McCartney. When issued as a single in May 1970, a month after the Beatles' break-up, it became the group's 20th and last number-one hit on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart in the United States. The main recording of the song took place in January 1969 and featured a sparse musical arrangement. When preparing the tapes from these sessions for release in April 1970, producer Phil Spector added orchestral and choral overdubs.
