CFJL-FM (100.5 FM, ''Hot 100.5'') is a radio station in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Owned by Evanov Communications, it broadcasts a classic hits format focusing on pop, rhythmic, and rock music from the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s. CHWE-FM (106.1 FM, ''Energy 106'') is a radio station in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Owned by Evanov Communications, it broadcasts a CHR/Top 40 format. CHWE-FM's studios and offices are located behind Polo Park at 202-1440 Jack Blick Avenue in Winnipeg, with sister stations CKJS-FM and CFJL-FM. The transmitter is located at Duff Roblin Provincial Park. History On May 8, 2009, Evanov Radio Group was granted approval by the CRTC to launch a new Winnipeg radio station on the 106.1 FM frequency. At first it was rumored that the company was going to launch another "Jewel" radio station, similar to CKDX-FM and various other stations around Ontario, as the Winnipeg station was registered as CFJL-FM. CKJS is a multilingual radio station which operates at 92.7 FM. The station broadcasts from Polo Park in Winnipeg, Manitoba with sister stations CFJL-FM and CHWE-FM, while its transmitter is located at Duff Roblin Provincial Park just south of Winnipeg. The station is the only multilingual radio station in Manitoba serving more than twenty different ethnic groups. History The station was founded in 1974 by Casimir Stanczykowski; CKJS was the second station to be established by Stanczykowski, behind Montreal's multicultural station CFMB. In the '80's it also boasted, for a very short time, a cutting edge alternative music program (well before such programs existed on AM radio in particular) called ''Nightbeat''. Stunting is a type of publicity stunt in radio broadcasting, where a station—abruptly and often without advance announcement—begins to air content that is seemingly uncharacteristic compared to what is normally played. Stunting is typically used to generate publicity and audience attention for upcoming changes to a station's programming, such as new branding, format, or as a soft launch for a newly-established station.
