picture info	CDU Baden-Württemberg The CDU Baden-Württemberg is the political party with the most members in the States of Germany, German state of Baden-Württemberg and the second largest state party (in German, ''Landespartei'' or ''Landesverband'') of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany with almost 65,000 members. Its chairman is Thomas Strobl, who succeeded Stefan Mappus after the lost 2011 election. Its predecessors were the Badische Christlich-Soziale Volkspartei (BCSV), the Christlich-demokratische Partei (CDP), and the Christlich-Soziale Volkspartei. The state party was founded in January 1971, when the state parties of CDU Nordbaden, Südbaden, Nordwürttemberg, and Württemberg-Hohenzollern merged into a single party. The first chairman was Hans Filbinger. 	Thomas Strobl Thomas Strobl (born 17 March 1960) is a German politician of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany, Christian Democratic Union (CDU) who has been serving as Deputy Minister-President of Baden-Württemberg since 2016. From 1998 until 2016 Strobl was a member of the German Bundestag. In 2011 he was elected chairman of the CDU Baden-Württemberg, succeeding Stefan Mappus. 	Gebhard Müller Gebhard Müller (17 April 1900 – 7 August 1990) was a German lawyer and politician ( CDU). He was President of Württemberg-Hohenzollern (1948–1952), Minister President of Baden-Württemberg (1953–1958) and President of the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany (1959-1971). He was born in Füramoos and died in Stuttgart. 	Grand Coalition A grand coalition is an arrangement in a multi-party parliamentary system in which the two largest political parties of opposing political ideologies unite in a coalition government.
