CDS Micro Systems
CDS Software (also known as CDS Micro Systems for its earlier titles) was an independent publisher and developer of computer game software based in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, UK. History The company was founded by Ian Williams, a computer programmer from Doncaster who started developing games for the Sinclair ZX80 shortly after its launch. After the initial company success he employed Giles Hunter (A manager from Doncaster W.H Smiths) to help expand the business. He sold his company to Giles Hunter to pursue other interests in 1985. In 1985, the company launched the Blue Ribbon budget label. In 1988 CDS Software, under the CDS group of companies changed its name to Nimrod Holdings Ltd, also publishing games for the Amiga. Publishing continued under the CDS Software Label until the early 1990s. Doncaster
Doncaster (, ) is a city in South Yorkshire, England. Named after the River Don, it is the administrative centre of the larger City of Doncaster. It is the second largest settlement in South Yorkshire after Sheffield. Doncaster is situated in the Don Valley on the western edge of the Humberhead Levels and east of the Pennines. At the 2021 census, the city had a population of 308,100, while its built-up area had a population of 158,141 at the 2011 census. ''Steve Davis Snooker'' is a sports simulation video game developed and published by CDS Software in 1984. The budget release published by Blue Ribbon Software reached the top of the UK charts in May 1988. ''Steve Davis Snooker'' simulates the cue sport snooker. Released under licence from 6-time Snooker World Champion, Steve Davis. The game is the first to feature a license of a professional snooker player, with later Jimmy White creating the ''Cueball'' series. CDS called the game the "ultimate successor" to their 1983 pool simulator, titled ''Pool''. The game is a variation of Reversi where rectangular sections of an image of a nude model are revealed as the player earns points. ''Centrefold Squares'' was published by CDS Software in Europe, and published by Proein S.A under the original American title in Spain. Gameplay ''Centerfold Squares'' is a variation of reversi referred to as 'Double-Up' that is played on a ten by ten grid; four counters of two opposing colors are placed in the center in a two by two alternating pattern. Krisalis Software Limited was a British video game developer and publisher founded by Tony Kavanagh, Peter Harrap, and Shaun Hollingworth in 1987 under the name Teque Software Development Limited as a subsidiary label (beginning in 1988) until the official company name was changed to Krisalis Software in 1991.
