CBNT-DT (channel 8) is a television station in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, broadcasting the English-language service of CBC Television. Owned and operated by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, the station maintains studios on University Avenue, and its transmitter is located south-southwest of George's Pond in St. John's. History The station went on the air on October 1, 1964, as previous CBC affiliate CJON-TV (then on channel 6, now an independent station on channel 21) switched networks to CTV. Living (2007 TV Program)
''Living'' is a group of regional Canadian lifestyle television programs that aired on CBC Television stations. The initial broadcast was on January 15, 2007. Due to budgetary issues, the ''Living'' programs were not continued past the end of the 2008–09 television season. The final episodes of each ''Living'' series aired on August 28, 2009. Most of the CBC stations which aired ''Living'' produced their own locally oriented programs. Most used the title format ''Living (Location)'', although the shows in Toronto and Ottawa were titled ''Living in (Location)'' due to similarly named programs on Rogers TV in those markets. CBN (AM)
CBN (640 kHz) is a public AM radio station in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It carries a news, talk and information format and is the local Radio One station of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. CBN is powered at 10,000 watts, and is a Class A station broadcasting on a clear-channel frequency, shared with KFI in Los Angeles, the dominant station on 640 AM. CBN uses a non-directional antenna located off Thorburn Road near Exit 44 of the Outer Ring Road on the Trans-Canada Highway. With its non-directional signal and low dial frequency, CBN can be heard by day around most of Southeastern Newfoundland. At night, it can be picked up across much of the eastern half of North America with a good radio, but is strongest in Atlantic Canada and Eastern Quebec. CBN-FM is a Canadian radio station broadcasting in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador at 106.9 MHz. The station was launched in 1975. It is part of the CBC's CBC Music network. Local programming is limited to weather updates and a pre-broadcast of the local Radio One station's Saturday afternoon cultural program, ''The Performance Hour'', on Saturdays at 11:30 a.m. The latter airs primarily to fill time, as some Saturday afternoon programs are timed to air live in both the Atlantic and Eastern time zones. CBAFT-DT (channel 11) is an Ici Radio-Canada Télé station in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, serving Acadians in the Maritimes and Franco-Newfoundlanders in Newfoundland and Labrador. It is part of a twinstick with Fredericton-based CBC Television station CBAT-DT (channel 4). CBAFT-DT's studios are located on Main Street in Moncton, adjacent to the Dieppe border and the CF Champlain shopping centre, and its transmitter is located on Timberline Road in Moncton. The Newfoundland Time Zone (NT) is a geographic region that keeps time by subtracting 3.5 hours from Coordinated Universal Time ( UTC) during standard time, resulting in UTC−03:30; or subtracting 2.5 hours during daylight saving time. The clock time in this zone is based on the mean solar time of the meridian 52 degrees and 30 arcminutes west of the Greenwich Observatory. Robert Cecil Cole (born June 24, 1933) is a Canadian former sports television announcer who has worked for CBC and Sportsnet and former competitive curler. He is known primarily for his work on ''Hockey Night in Canada''. Early life A knee injury suffered from playing soccer put Cole in the hospital for approximately six months as a youth. It was during this time that he would listen to Foster Hewitt calling games on the radio and developed an interest in becoming a sports announcer. In 1956, Cole made an impromptu visit to Hewitt's office to present him with an audition tape. To Cole's surprise, Hewitt welcomed him in, listened to his tape, and talked with him for two hours.
