CBC Wednesday Night
''CBC Wednesday Night'' was a weekly anthology series which aired on CBC Radio from 1947 until the 1970s. The program featured a mix of music, plays, operas, documentaries, and news, and typically ran for around three hours without commercials. It was billed as being "produced primarily for the discriminating listener", and drew comparisons to the BBC Third Programme. The series was critically acclaimed, receiving awards from the Ohio State University Institute for Education by radio "for its courageous experiments with radio themes, techniques and writing, and for the excellence of its music and production." Because of its reputation for high-brow entertainment, it also attracted some controversy to the CBC, which was sometimes criticized for the "arrogance" of its cultural programming. CBC Radio is the English-language radio operations of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. BBC Third Programme
The BBC Third Programme was a national radio station produced and broadcast from 1946 until 1967, when it was replaced by Radio 3. It first went on the air on 29 September 1946 and quickly became one of the leading cultural and intellectual forces in Britain, playing a crucial role in disseminating the arts. It was the BBC's third national radio network, the other two being the Home Service (mainly speech-based) and the Light Programme, principally devoted to light entertainment and music. Harry J
Harry Zephaniah Johnson (6 July 1945 – 3 April 2013), known by the stage name Harry J, was a Jamaican reggae record producer. Biography Born in Westmoreland Parish, Jamaica, Johnson started to play music with the Virtues as a bass player before moving into management of the group.Larkin, Colin (1998) ''The Virgin Encyclopedia of Reggae'', Virgin Books, , p. 139 When the band split up he worked as an insurance salesman. He first appeared as a record producer in 1968, when he launched his own record label, "Harry J", by releasing The Beltones' local hit "No More Heartaches", one of the earliest reggae songs to be recorded. His agreement with Coxsone Dodd allowed him to use Studio One's facilities, where he produced the hit "Cuss Cuss" with singer Lloyd Robinson, which became one of the most covered riddims in Jamaica.
