CANFAR
The Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research (CANFAR) is the only national charitable foundation that raises awareness to generate funds for research into all aspects of HIV infection and AIDS. Since inception in 1987, CANFAR has invested more than $21 million in research initiatives across Canada, and supported more than 400 distinct research initiatives. CANFAR is funded solely through the generosity of corporations, groups, and individuals across Canada. Each year it is the responsibility of CANFAR's Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) to evaluate which research proposals seem most promising and likely to make a worthwhile contribution to the international body of HIV and AIDS research. Andy Pringle
Andrew Pringle (born ) is a retired bond trader and political activist linked with the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario and the Conservative Party of Canada. He was first appointed a member of the Toronto Police Services Board in 2011, was elected vice-chair of the board in January 2015, and, since the July 31, 2015 retirement of Alok Mukherjee, held the office of chair of the TPSB, until his retirement on September 30, 2019. Bluma Appel
Bluma Appel, (September 4, 1919July 15, 2007) was a Canadian philanthropist and patron of the arts. She was born the daughter of Russian émigrés who left Czarist Russia around 1905. Born and raised in Montreal, Quebec, she was the founder of CANFAR, the Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research. Bluma married the Montreal chartered accountant Bram Appel on July 11, 1940. It was Bram's subsequent success in business which afforded Bluma the opportunity to engage in serious philanthropic activity: in 1946 he co-founded Pall Corporation. In 1979, she ran unsuccessfully as a Liberal candidate for the House of Commons of Canada in the riding of Nepean—Carleton. She lost to Walter Baker. She was a major supporter of the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts, which named one of its theatres in her honour in March 1983 after she made a donation to help renovate the 876-seat theatre where the Canadian Stage Company (CanStage) performs. Valerie Pringle
Valerie Pringle (née Whittingham, born 5 September 1953) is a Canadian television host and journalist, hosting the Canadian edition of ''Antiques Roadshow'' on CBC since 2006. Pringle was born in Windsor, Ontario. Pringle began her career in broadcasting as a summer student with Toronto radio station CFRB in 1973, and became a full-time reporter for the station the following year. In 1981, she hosted her own daily series on CFRB, ''The Pringle Program''. In 1984, Pringle moved to the CBC as one of the original cohosts of ''Midday''. She stayed with ''Midday'' until 1992, when she moved to CTV to co-host ''Canada AM''.
