The African Handball Confederation, (acronym CAHB) referring to a (french: Confédération Africaine de Handball), is the administrative and controlling body for African team handball. Founded on 15 January 1973 after the 2nd All-Africa Games in Lagos (Nigeria), it represents the national handball associations of Africa under the supervision of the International Handball Federation (IHF). The CAHB headquarters is located in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. Its current President is the Dr. Mansourou Aremou from Benin. The motto of the organisation is Let's build African Handball together. The African Women's Junior Handball Championship is the official competition for junior women's national handball teams of Africa, organized by the African Handball Confederation, under the supervision of the International Handball Federation and takes place every two years. In addition to crowning the African champions, the tournament also serves as a qualifying tournament for the IHF Women's Junior World Championship, Women's World Junior Championship. African Handball Champions League is an annual international club handball competition run by the African Handball Confederation. The top club sides from Africa's handball leagues are invited to participate in the tournament, which serves as a qualifying tournament for the IHF Super Globe. Since 2013, Algeria has decided not to participate in any continental competition due to the participation of clubs from Western Sahara under the flag of Morocco as Algeria recognizes Western Sahara as a state. The International Handball Federation (IHF) is the administrative and controlling body for handball and beach handball. IHF is responsible for the organisation of handball's major international tournaments, notably the IHF World Men's Handball Championship, which commenced in 1938, and the IHF World Women's Handball Championship, which commenced in 1957. Mansourou Adolphe Aremou (born 16 April 1952) is a Beninese assistant professor and sports administrator. He was assistant professor at the National University of Benin from 1987 to 2009. Alongside his teaching activities, he held executive positions in the world of handball. He is the current President of African Handball Confederation (CAHB) since September 2008. African Men's Handball Championship
The African Handball Nations Championship is the official competition for senior national handball teams of Africa, and takes place every two years. In addition to crowning the African champions, the tournament also serves as a qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games and for World Handball Championship. Started in 1974, it is the oldest continental handball competition. The current champions are Egypt, who won the 2022 tournament in Egypt. Only three countries have won the tournament. Tunisia, winner of the first edition, has won the title a record ten times. Egypt, with eight titles, and Algeria, with seven titles, are the only two other teams to have won the competition. Both Morocco and Algeria were banned from hosting the African Handball Championship in 2022 and 2024, Egypt were chosen to host the tournaments instead.
