Wychavon District Council elections are held every four years. Wychavon District Council is the local authority for the non-metropolitan district of Wychavon in Worcestershire, England. Since the last boundary changes in 2003, 45 councillors have been elected from 32 wards. Wychavon UK Local Election 2019 Map
Wychavon is a Districts of England, local government district in Worcestershire, England, with a population size of 132,500 according to the 2021 United Kingdom census, 2021 census. Its council is based in the town of Pershore, and the other towns in the district are Droitwich Spa and Evesham. The district extends from the southeast corner of Worcestershire north and west. It borders all the other districts of Worcestershire, as well as the counties of Gloucestershire and Warwickshire. The district was created under the Local Government Act 1972, on 1 April 1974. It was a merger of the boroughs of Droitwich and Evesham along with Evesham Rural District and most of Droitwich Rural District and most of Pershore Rural District. The district's name, which was invented in 1973, contains two elements. "Wych" recalls the Anglo-Saxons, Saxon Kingdom of Hwicce, Hwicca, and "Avon" is for the River Avon, Warwickshire, River Avon. 2019 Wychavon District Council Election
The 2019 Wychavon District Council election took place on 2 May 2019 to elect members of Wychavon District Council. This was on the same day as other local elections. The entire council (45 seats) was up for election. The Conservatives lost 5 seats (2 to the Liberal Democrats, 2 to the Green Party, and 1 to an independent), and gained 2 seats (1 from the Liberal Democrats, and 1 held defection from UKIP), bringing their total on the council to 36. 7 wards (Bretforton & Offenham, Dodderhill, Eckington, Harvington & Norton, Inkberrow, Norton and Whittington, and South Bredon Hill) did not hold a vote, as an equal number of candidates ran as seats available. 2015 Wychavon District Council Election
The 2015 Wychavon District Council election took place on 7 May 2015 to elect members of Wychavon District Council in Worcestershire, England. The whole council was up for election and the Conservative Party stayed in overall control of the council. Background After the 2011 elections to Wychavon District Council the Conservatives controlled the council with 39 councillors, while the Liberal Democrats had five seats and there was one Labour Party councillor. In March 2012 the Conservative councillor for Lovett and North Claines, Alan Fisher, was suspended from the council for 6 months and on his return sat as an independent councillor. Another change came in December 2013 when the councillor for Elmley Castle and Somerville, Roma Kirke, left the Conservatives to become an independent, before resigning from the council in December 2014. 2011 Wychavon District Council Election
The 2011 Wychavon District Council election took place on 5 May 2011 to elect members of Wychavon District Council in Worcestershire, England. The whole council was up for election and the Conservative Party stayed in overall control of the council. Background After the last election in 2007 the Conservatives controlled the council with 35 councillors, compared to 10 for the Liberal Democrats. However, in October 2009 the Liberal Democrats gained a seat from the Conservatives at a by-election in Droitwich South West. In 2011 12 candidates, 11 Conservatives and one Liberal Democrat, were elected without opposition, while in Elmley Castle and Somerville the election was delayed after no candidates were nominated for that ward. Election result The Conservatives increased their majority on the council, making a net gain of five seats to have 38 councillors after the May election. The 2007 Wychavon District Council election took place on 3 May 2007 to elect members of Wychavon Non-metropolitan district, District Council in Worcestershire, England. The whole council was up for election and the Conservative Party (UK), Conservative party stayed in overall control of the council. Background Before the election the Conservatives controlled the council with 31 councillors, compared to 12 for the Liberal Democrats (UK), Liberal Democrats and 2 for Labour Party (UK), Labour. A total of 96 candidates stood for election including the first UK Independence Party candidate for Wychavon District Council in Evesham South, however the Conservative leader of the council, Martin Jennings was among those who stood down from the council at the election.
