Wonju () is the most populous city in Gangwon Province, South Korea. The city is located approximately east of Seoul. Wonju was the site of three crucial battles during the Korean War. Geography Wonju sits at the southwestern corner of Gangwon Province, bordering Gyeonggi Province to the west and North Chungcheong Province to the south. Within Gangwon, Wonju borders Yeongwol County to the east and Hoengseong County to the north. Unlike much of Gangwon Province, Wonju is not a mountainous area, but rather a basin along the wide plain created by the Seom River. Wonju DB Promy
The Wonju DB Promy is a professional basketball club in the Korean Basketball League (KBL), located in the city of Wonju. From its founding in 1996, the team has always been based in its home province of Gangwon. It has the rare distinction of being the only team in the KBL to have never changed its hometown despite changing names and corporate sponsors several times. Due to this long-standing relationship with the city of Wonju, the team enjoys a particularly strong local fanbase and is Gangwon Province's oldest sports team. Gangwon Province, South Korea
Gangwon Province is a province of South Korea, with its capital at Chuncheon. Wonju Airport
Wonju Airport is an airport in Hoengseong County, Gangwon Province, South Korea, Gangwon province, South Korea . During the Korean War it was designated K-46 (Hoengseong Air Base) by the United States Air Force. In 2011, 70,943 passengers used the airport, which is mainly for military use. Only one parking position is large enough for a Boeing 737 Next Generation, Boeing 737-900. The airport has a daily scheduled flight two times, currently operated by Jin Air to Jeju. Because Wonju Airport is sharing with military, taking photograph or video of apron, runway and military facility is strictly prohibited. Wonju Airport's passenger terminal is 1.5 km from the airport runway, requiring passengers to take a shuttle (about 20 minutes) to their aircraft. Hoengseong County is a county in Gangwon Province, South Korea. The roots of ''Codonopsis lanceolata'' ( ko, deodeok, script=Latn), a bonnet bellflower species, play an important role in local agriculture. The Korean Minjok Leadership Academy, a notable boarding school, is located in the county. A county located in the southwestern part of Gangwon-do. Sangji University
Sangji University (상지대학교) is a private university located in Wonju, Gangwon Province, South Korea. Established in 1955, it has seven colleges and six graduate schools. Its top areas of study are Oriental Medicine (one of only 11 in the country) and Tourism. The Sangji Foundation also manages Sangji Yeongseo College and Sangji Girls Middle and High Schools.
