Wind Power In Connecticut
The U.S. state of Connecticut has vast wind energy resources offshore as well as onshore although Connecticut was the last state in the United States to block the construction of utility scale wind turbines. Connecticut maintains a renewable portfolio standard that requires 21% of the state's electricity to come from renewable sources by 2020. Legislation Until 2019, Connecticut was the only state in the United States to disallow the construction of utility-scale wind turbines. The state's two and a half year old ban on wind power was enacted in 2011, ostensibly to provide time for the Connecticut Siting Council to enact regulations governing the siting of wind turbines in the state. The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is an agency within the United States Department of the Interior, established in 2010 by Secretarial Order. Revolution Wind is a 704 MW capacity offshore wind farm under construction off the coast of Rhode Island. The wind farm is located 15 nautical miles (28 km) southeast of Point Judith, Rhode Island, 32 nautical miles (59 km) southeast of Connecticut, and 12 nautical miles (22 km) southwest of Martha's Vineyard. Revolution Wind is located on the Outer Continental Shelf, in a federally-managed lease area (OCS-A 0486) governed by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM). South Fork Wind Farm is the United States' first utility-scale Offshore wind power, offshore wind farm. It is located on the Outer Continental Shelf Offshore Rhode Island and providing power to New York (state), New York state. The 132 Megawatt, MW, 12-turbine wind farm is located southeast of Rhode Island's Block Island and east of Montauk Point on the South Fork (Long Island), South Fork of New York's Long Island. The wind farm is expected to generate electricity equivalent to that consumed by 70,000 Long Island homes use in a year and offset 300,000 tons of carbon emissions each year. Bridgeport Harbor
Bridgeport Harbor is an inlet on the north side of Long Island Sound in Bridgeport, Connecticut. It was carved by the retreat of the glaciers during the last ice age approximately 13,000 years ago. Bridgeport Harbor is a federal shipping port and a terminus of the Bridgeport & Port Jefferson Steamboat Company, one of the oldest ferry companies in the nation. It is due east of the smaller Black Rock Harbor which is also in the city of Bridgeport.
