Vermont Catamounts Men's Basketball
The Vermont Catamounts Men's Basketball team is the men's basketball team that represents the University of Vermont in Burlington, Vermont. The school's team currently competes in the America East Conference and plays its home games at Patrick Gym. The team has reached the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament eight times, in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2010, 2012, 2017, 2019, and 2022. UVM famously upset Syracuse University in the first round of the 2005 tournament. The Catamounts are coached by John Becker. America East Conference
The America East Conference is a collegiate athletic conference affiliated with NCAA Division I founded in 1979, whose members are located in the Northeastern United States. The conference has nine core members including eight public research universities, three of which, the University of Maine, the University of New Hampshire, and the University of Vermont, are the flagship universities of their states. The two non-flagship university centers of the State University of New York are in the conference: the University at Albany and Binghamton University. Bryant University is the only private university among the core membership. Of the nine members, eight are located within the borders of 7 contiguous states. The ninth, UMBC, is the only institution outside this bloc of states. Rollie Massimino
Roland Vincent Massimino (November 13, 1934 – August 30, 2017) was an American basketball coach. He served as the head men's basketball coach at Stony Brook University (1969–1971), Villanova University (1973–1992), the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (1992–1994), Cleveland State University (1996–2003), and at Northwood University's Florida campus, which was sold in 2014 to Keiser University (2006–2017). At Villanova, he led his 1984–85 team to the NCAA championship. Entering the 1985 NCAA tournament as an eight seed, Villanova defeated their heavily favored Big East Conference foe, the Georgetown Hoyas, in the title game. Larry Killick
Lawrence Findley Killick (May 31, 1922 – January 31, 2013) was an American basketball player. Killick was drafted in the first round of the 1947 BAA draft as the 10th overall pick by the Baltimore Bullets, although he never ended up playing in the Basketball Association of America, which was the forerunner to the modern NBA. Eddie Benton, Jr. (born February 16, 1975) is an American college women's basketball coach, former assistant coach for the women's program at Mississippi State University. He is best known for his collegiate playing career at the University of Vermont between 1992 and 1996. In his senior season he was named the Frances Pomeroy Naismith Award winner, given annually to the best college senior player in the country who is or shorter. Benton then had a short-lived professional career before becoming a college coach. Ryan Davis (born January 20, 2000) is an American professional basketball player who last played for the Landstede Hammers of the BNXT League. He played college basketball for the Vermont Catamounts and was named the America East Player of the Year in 2021 and 2022. High school career Davis attended James B. Anthony Miles Lamb (born January 20, 1998) is an American professional basketball player for the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the Vermont Catamounts. Early life and high school career Lamb moved to Rochester, New York at a young age. He attended Greece Athena High School in nearby Greece, New York, where he competed on the basketball team under coach Jim Johnson. As a junior, Lamb averaged 20 points and 13 rebounds per game in leading the team to the Class A state final. Trae Bell-Haynes (born September 5, 1995) is a Canadian basketball player for Budućnost VOLI of the Montenegrin First League, the ABA League and the EuroCup. He played college basketball for the Vermont Catamounts. Marqus Austin Blakely (born October 22, 1988) is an American professional basketball player who is currently playing for the Kumamoto Volters of the B.League. He played college basketball for Vermont. College career Blakely gained a reputation at Vermont by winning the Kevin Roberson America East Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year twice and the America East Defensive Player of the Year Award three times. He earned national recognition by winning the 2010 State Farm Division I College Basketball Slam Dunk Contest. He performed a dunk invented by then teammate Evan Fjeld that had never been done before. Matthew Johnson (born circa 1969) is an American basketball coach and former player best known for his collegiate playing career at the University of Vermont from 1987 to 1991. His professional basketball career was a one-year stint in Ireland in 1994–95. Mike Lonergan
Michael Thomas Lonergan (born January 28, 1966) is the former head coach of the George Washington University Colonials men's basketball team. He replaced Karl Hobbs. He was formerly the coach of the University of Vermont Catamounts and the Catholic University of America (CUA) and before that a point guard for CUA. Tom Brennan (born May 2, 1949) is a radio and television sportscaster and former men's basketball head coach at the University of Vermont from 1986 to 2005. Coaching career Raised in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, Brennan graduated as the all-time leading scorer at Phillipsburg Catholic High School. Brennan graduated from the University of Georgia in 1971, where, as a senior, he received the men's basketball team leadership award.
