	Emily Vermeule Emily Dickinson Townsend Vermeule (August 11, 1928 – February 6, 2001) was an American classical scholar and archaeologist. She was a professor of classical philology and archaeology at Harvard University. Early life and education Emily Dickinson Townsend was born on August 11, 1928, in New York City to Clinton Blake Townsend and Eleanor Mary Meneely. She was named for her grandmother, a relative of the poet Emily Dickinson. She attended the Brearley School in New York City from 1934 to 1946. She received an A.B. ''summa cum laude'' in Greek and philosophy from Bryn Mawr College in 1950. She earned an A.M. in classical archaeology from Radcliffe College in 1954, and a Ph.D. in Greek from Bryn Mawr in 1956. 	Adrian Vermeule Cornelius Adrian Comstock Vermeule (, born May 2, 1968) is an American legal scholar who is currently the Ralph S. Tyler Professor of Constitutional Law at Harvard Law School. He is best known for his contributions to constitutional law and administrative law, in particular his theory of common-good constitutionalism. Biography Vermeule was born May 2, 1968. 	Blakey Vermeule Emily Dickinson Blake "Blakey" Vermeule (born July 14, 1966) is an American scholar of eighteenth-century British literature and theory of mind. She is a Professor of English at Stanford University. Biography Vermeule is the daughter of classicist Emily Vermeule and former Museum of Fine Arts curator Cornelius Clarkson Vermeule III. Her brother, Adrian Vermeule, is a professor at Harvard Law School. Her wife is Terry Castle, also a professor of English at Stanford. Her research interests include British literature from 1660–1800, critical theory, major British poets, post-Colonial fiction, the history of the novel, the cognitive underpinnings of fiction, and human evolutionary psychology. 	Cornelius Clarkson Vermeule I Cornelius Clarkson Vermeule (September 5, 1858 – February 1, 1950), was a civil engineer and topographer in New Jersey and New York. Biography Cornelius Clarkson Vermeule was born at Raritan Landing, New Jersey, on September 5, 1858, the son of Adrian Vermeule and Maria Vechte. Vermeule graduated from Rutgers College in 1878 and joined the United States Geological Survey.
