Veprecula
''Veprecula'' is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family (biology), family Raphitomidae. Description (Original description) This genus has been created by Melvill in 1917 for a series of deep-water species of ''Clathurella'' with several peculiarities. The small, thin, delicate shell has a pale brown or white, fusiform Spire (mollusc), spire, either very attenuate, or pagodiform, or broader, and ventricose, always much suturally impressed. The shell contains 10-12 Whorl (mollusc), whorls with 4-5 whorlsin the protoconch. The first of these is smooth, the second to the fourth or fifth are very finely longitudinally radially costulate. The remainder are either few or closely ribbed, crossed by frequent or more distant lirations, acutely echinate at the points of junction, interstices appearing deeply seated, almost smooth, quadrate or oblong. The Aperture (mollusc), aperture is oblong. The outer Lip (gastropod), lip is thin. The sinus is deep and wide, sit ...

Veprecula Arethusa
''Veprecula arethusa'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Raphitomidae. Description The length of the shell varies between 5 mm and 11.5 mm. At the base of the body whorl, around the cauda, a faint brown band is traceable. The smooth furrow at the top of the ten whorls, their reticulated surface, and the rather produced but narrow siphonal canal are characters at once indicating this species. Smith E.A. (1882). Veprecula Vepratica
''Veprecula vepratica'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Raphitomidae. Description The length of the shell varies between 3.5 mm and 12 mm. (Original description) The small, thin, slender shell is fusiform and prickly. The spire is pagodiform. Its colour is uniform pale brown. The shell contains six whorls, plus a five-whorled embryonic protoconch. Sculpture: except the prickles and the ridges, the whole surface is microscopically granulated. Ten sharp projecting radial ribs, interrupted by the broad anal fasciole, ascend the spire obliquely. Along the periphery of each whorl runs a broad spiral shelf, beneath it are two similar but lesser spirals, the lowest of which is half buried in the suture, and above it are three rapidly and successively diminishing spirals. These radials and spirals enclose deeply sunk lozenges, at the point of intersection upwardly directed prickles arise. The anal fasciole is marked with crescentic striae. On the ba ...

Veprecula Hedleyi
''Veprecula hedleyi'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Raphitomidae. Description The length of the shell attains 3 mm. This species differs from its congeners in its greater ventricosity and roundness of the whorl. The number of longitudinal ribs on the body whorl is sixteen in the specimen figured. The spiral acute lirations are also more frequent than obtain in Veprecula sykesii or Veprecula vepratica. The four apical whorls are microscopically longitudinally costellate. The holotype possesses a greater number of ribs than obtained in the more recently collected examples, but the author cannot further separate them specifically. Distribution This species occurs in the Gulf of Oman and Réunion Réunion (; french: La Réunion, ; previously ''Île Bourbon''; rcf, label= Reunionese Creole, La Rényon) is an island in the Indian Ocean that is an overseas department and region of France. It is located approximately east of the island .. ...

Veprecula Vacillata
''Veprecula vacillata'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Raphitomidae. Subspecies: ''Veprecula vacillata paucicostata'' Hedley, 1922 Description The length of the shell attains 5.5 mm, its diameter 2 mm. (Original description) The small, acuminate shell is excavate at the base and below the suture. Its colour is buff, sometimes suffused with chocolate. An acicular protoconch of three whorls is followed by five adult whorls. Sculpture: Deep square meshes are enclosed by radial and spiral cords, with small prickles at the point of intersection. Both the radials and the spirals vary in their development. On the body whorl there may be from nine to twelve radials, and from fifteen to eighteen spirals. On the upper whorl there are from three to five spirals, the peripheral one dominating. Aperture :—The anal sulcus is sutural and rather deep. The outer lip is dentate by the projection of the spirals. The siphonal canal is rather long and ...

''Veprecula pungens'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Raphitomidae. Description The length of the shell attains 9 mm. This species partakes of the general aspect of Veprecula arethusa but is distinguishable from it by its longer spire, narrower form, closer reticulation, and smooth apical whorls. Distribution This marine species was found off Hong Kong Hong Kong ( (US) or (UK); , ), officially the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China ( abbr. Veprecula Cooperi
''Veprecula cooperi'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Raphitomidae. Description The length of the shell attains 6 mm, its diameter 2 mm. (Original description) The small, fragile, fusiform shell is slender and prickly. The spire is pagodiform. The shell contains five whorls, plus a three-whorled embryonic protoconch, which is finely longitudinally ribbed. The whorls are convex, contracting rapidly. The sculpture shows four sharp raised spiral ribs, crossed by about twelve equally sharp raised axial ribs, which disappear below the fourth spiral, and are interrupted above by the broad anal fasciole. The intersection of the ribs is marked by a sharp prickle. Between the raised ribs are deep oblong pits, the surface of which is smooth and dull. The anal fasciole is crossed by fine crescentic growth-lines, and bordered on its outer edge by a narrow double thread. The anal slit nearly 1 mm. in length. The suture is distinct, serrated by the lowest ...

Veprecula Scala
''Veprecula scala'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Raphitomidae. Description The length of the shell attains 5.5 mm, its diameter 2 mm. (Original description) The slender, fusiform shell is excavate at the base and below the suture. Its colour is burnt sienna, with a cream zone on the shoulder of the body whorl. A tall and narrow protoconch contains four whorls, delicately radially ribbed. it is followed by five adult whorls. Sculpture: Spaced spiral cords over-run the ribs and form small scales on their summits, four on the penultimate, then three and two on earlier whorls. On the body whorl they extend to the tip of the snout, and number about sixteen. The radial ribs are closely packed above, and are more spaced as they descend. On the body whorl they decrease to six in number, and are narrow, erect, and oblique. They vanish on the base. The siphonal canal is produced, and a little twisted. The anal sulcus is sutural, rather deep and n ...

Veprecula Gracilispira
''Veprecula gracilispira'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Raphitomidae. Description (Original description) The slender, fusiform shell is dirty yellowish, faintly banded with livid brown between the ribs near the top of the whorls, and stained with the same colour from the middle of the body whorl downwards. The shell contains 12 whorls. The three whorls in the protoconch are convex, minutely reticulated with raised obliquely crossing lines. The rest are very convex, with a slight concavity, sculptured with distinct arcuate short raised lines beneath the suture, also bearing slender oblique costellae (13 on the penultimate whorl), which are crossed by transverse lirae. These are four to six on the upper whorl, nodulous on the riblets. The nodules are compressed and subacute. The body whorl is convex above and slender below the middle. At this point the costellae are becoming obsolete. And thence downwards the whorl is transversely obliquely li ...
