Vanilloideae Tribes
Vanilloideae is one of the subfamilies of orchids belonging to the large family Orchidaceae. Lindley (1836) and Garay (1986)Garay,L. (1986), Olim Vanillaceae. Botanical Museum Leaflets. Harvard University 30 : 233-237. treated it as a separate family, Vanillaceae. But their single, incumbent anther and poorly organised pollinia led to their recognition as at best a subgroup of monandrous orchids. From a molecular point of view, this clade is rather a sister to subfamily Epidendroideae and subfamily Orchidoideae in the Orchidaceae, and thus it is today also considered a subfamily. The subfamily Vanilloideae consists of 15 genera and about 180 species, belonging to the tribes Pogonieae and Vanilleae. Their distribution is pantropical, throughout Asia, Australia and the Americas. The species in the tribe Pogonieae have a characteristic laciniate lip margin. The color of their petals and sepals is pink or rarely white or bluish. Their sepals have an oblong, elliptic, or narrowly la ...

''Duckeella'' is a genus of orchids (family Orchidaceae), belonging to the subfamily Vanilloideae. It has 3 known species, all native to South America: The genus name of ''Duckesia'' is in honour of Adolpho Ducke (1876–1959), an entomologist, botanist and ethnographer specializing in Amazonia. It was first published and described in Anais Reunião Sul-Amer. Bot. Vol.3 on page 31 in 1938 (published 1939). Vanilla (genus)
''Vanilla'', the vanilla orchids, forms a flowering plant genus of about 110 species in the orchid family (Orchidaceae). The most widely known member is the flat-leaved vanilla ('' V. planifolia''), native to Mexico and Belize, from which commercial vanilla flavoring is derived. It is the only orchid widely used for industrial purposes in flavoring such products as foods, beverages and cosmetics, and is recognized as the most popular aroma and flavor. The key constituent imparting its flavour is the phenolic aldehyde, vanillin. This evergreen genus occurs worldwide in tropical and subtropical regions, from tropical America to tropical Asia, New Guinea and West Africa. Five species are known from the contiguous United States, all limited to southern Florida. The genus was established in 1754 by Plumier, based on J. Miller. The word vanilla, derived from the diminutive of the Spanish word vaina (vaina itself meaning sheath or pod), simply translates as little pod. Descriptio ...

Pseudovanilla
''Pseudovanilla'', commonly known as giant climbing orchids, is a genus of eight climbing orchids in the family Orchidaceae. Orchids in this genus have tall climbing stems with clinging roots, leaf-like bracts and branching flowering stems with colourful, spreading sepals and petals. Species in the genus are native to Indonesia, the Philippines, New Guinea, Australia, Solomons, Micronesia and Fiji.Pridgeon, A.M., Cribb, P.J., Chase, M.C. & Rasmussen, F.N. (2003). Lecanorchis
''Lecanorchis'' is a genus of orchids (family Orchidaceae) belonging to the subfamily Vanilloideae. The scientific name is derived from the Greek words ''lekane'' (basin) and ''orchis'' (orchid). They occur in mountain forest of the Himalayas, China, Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia, and New Guinea at altitudes of . They are terrestrial, leafless myco-heterotrophs (formerly called saprophytes). They produce numerous, long, thick, horizontal roots under a short rhizome. The erect, dark, branched or unbranched Plant stem, stems are thin and brittle. They bear few to many dull brown, purple, yellow or green flowers with a somewhat brighter Labellum (botany), lip. The lip is about of equal length to the sepals and is covered with dense, yellow hair. Characteristics for this species are: * A calyculus, a cup-like structure formed from a group of small bracts, is present. * The erect gynostemium (the fused stamen and pistil) is elongate. ''Lecanorchis'' is related to ''Clematepistephium' ...

Galeola
''Galeola'' is a genus of orchids (family Orchidaceae) belonging to the subfamily Vanilloideae. All species in this genus are myco-heterotrophic, i.e. they are parasitic upon fungi. The genus is spread throughout southeast Asia (from India to China to New Guinea) as well as Madagascar and Comoros. ''Galeola'' is of biological interest because of its exclusive myco-heterotrophic nature and its seeds. The seeds are the biggest orchid seeds in the world. They are winged, which is also extraordinary for an orchid. Species At present, there are 6 currently recognized species: *''Galeola cathcarthii'' Hook.f. (Thailand, Myanmar, India, Assam, Bhutan, Sikkim) *''Galeola faberi'' Rolfe (China, Assam, Nepal, Vietnam, Sumatra) *''Galeola falconeri'' Hook.f. (India, Taiwan, Assam, Bhutan, Nepal, Thailand, Vietnam, China) *''Galeola humblotii'' H.G.Reichb. (Madagascar, Comoros) *''Galeola lindleyana'' (Hook.f. & J.W.Thomson) H.G.Reichb. Erythrorchis
''Erythrorchis'', commonly known as bootlace orchids or as 倒吊兰属 (dao diao lan shu), is a genus of two species of climbing, leafless orchids in the family Orchidaceae. Orchids in this genus are climbing or scrambling vines that cling by small roots, usually climbing on tree trunks. Many-branched flowering stems bear many densely crowded flowers. Description Orchids in the genus ''Erythrorchis'' are leafless mycotrophic, climbing herbs that cling to surfaces with small, unbranched roots from the main stems. They usually cling to tree trunks. Densely crowded, resupinate flowers are borne on a highly branched flowering stem. The sepals and petals are fleshy, often fused to each other and spread widely, the petals narrower than the sepals. The labellum is relatively wide and has crinkled edges and closely surrounds the column. The fruit are long, thin capsules. Taxonomy and naming The genus ''Erythrorchis'' was first formally described in 1837 by Carl Ludwig Blume and ...
