Vanilloideae
Vanilloideae is one of the subfamilies of orchids belonging to the large family Orchidaceae. Lindley (1836) and Garay (1986)Garay,L. (1986), Olim Vanillaceae. Botanical Museum Leaflets. Harvard University 30 : 233-237. treated it as a separate family, Vanillaceae. But their single, incumbent anther and poorly organised pollinia led to their recognition as at best a subgroup of monandrous orchids. From a molecular point of view, this clade is rather a sister to subfamily Epidendroideae and subfamily Orchidoideae in the Orchidaceae, and thus it is today also considered a subfamily. The subfamily Vanilloideae consists of 15 genera and about 180 species, belonging to the tribes Pogonieae and Vanilleae. Their distribution is pantropical, throughout Asia, Australia and the Americas. The species in the tribe Pogonieae have a characteristic laciniate lip margin. The color of their petals and sepals is pink or rarely white or bluish. Their sepals have an oblong, elliptic, or narrowly la ...

Galeola Humblotii
''Galeola'' is a genus of orchids (family Orchidaceae) belonging to the subfamily Vanilloideae. All species in this genus are myco-heterotrophic, i.e. they are parasitic upon fungi. The genus is spread throughout southeast Asia (from India to China to New Guinea) as well as Madagascar and Comoros. ''Galeola'' is of biological interest because of its exclusive myco-heterotrophic nature and its seeds. The seeds are the biggest orchid seeds in the world. They are winged, which is also extraordinary for an orchid. Species At present, there are 6 currently recognized species: *''Galeola cathcarthii'' Hook.f. (Thailand, Myanmar, India, Assam, Bhutan, Sikkim) *''Galeola faberi'' Rolfe (China, Assam, Nepal, Vietnam, Sumatra) *''Galeola falconeri'' Hook.f. ''Erythrorchis cassythoides'', commonly known as the black bootlace orchid, is a leafless climbing orchid in the family Orchidaceae. It has long, dark brown to blackish stems and groups of up to thirty yellowish to greenish, sweetly scented flowers and is endemic to eastern Australia. Description ''Erythrorchis cassythoides'' is a leafless, climbing, mycotrophic herb that has thin, wiry, dark brown to blackish stems up to long and branching groups of flowers with between ten and thirty resupinate flowers. The groups of flowers are long, each flower yellow to greenish and wide. The sepals and petals are long and wide with the lateral sepals and petals curved and spreading apart from each other. The labellum is white, long, wide with wavy or crinkled edges but has brown or reddish streaks as it ages. Vanilla (genus)
''Vanilla'', the vanilla orchids, forms a flowering plant genus of about 110 species in the orchid family (Orchidaceae). The most widely known member is the flat-leaved vanilla ('' V. planifolia''), native to Mexico and Belize, from which commercial vanilla flavoring is derived. It is the only orchid widely used for industrial purposes in flavoring such products as foods, beverages and cosmetics, and is recognized as the most popular aroma and flavor. The key constituent imparting its flavour is the phenolic aldehyde, vanillin. This evergreen genus occurs worldwide in tropical and subtropical regions, from tropical America to tropical Asia, New Guinea and West Africa. Five species are known from the contiguous United States, all limited to southern Florida. The genus was established in 1754 by Plumier, based on J. Miller. The word vanilla, derived from the diminutive of the Spanish word vaina (vaina itself meaning sheath or pod), simply translates as little pod. Descriptio ...

Erythrorchis Altissima
''Erythrorchis'', commonly known as bootlace orchids or as 倒吊兰属 (dao diao lan shu), is a genus of two species of climbing, leafless orchids in the family Orchidaceae. Orchids in this genus are climbing or scrambling vines that cling by small roots, usually climbing on tree trunks. Many-branched flowering stems bear many densely crowded flowers. Description Orchids in the genus ''Erythrorchis'' are leafless mycotrophic, climbing herbs that cling to surfaces with small, unbranched roots from the main stems. They usually cling to tree trunks. Densely crowded, resupinate flowers are borne on a highly branched flowering stem. The sepals and petals are fleshy, often fused to each other and spread widely, the petals narrower than the sepals. The labellum is relatively wide and has crinkled edges and closely surrounds the column. The fruit are long, thin capsules. Taxonomy and naming The genus ''Erythrorchis'' was first formally described in 1837 by Carl Ludwig Blume and ...
