Valdres
Valdres () is a traditional district in central, southern Norway, situated between the districts of Gudbrandsdalen and Hallingdal. The region of Valdres consists of the six municipalities of Nord-Aurdal, Sør-Aurdal, Øystre Slidre, Vestre Slidre, Vang and Etnedal. Valdres has about 18,000 inhabitants and is known for its excellent trout fishing and the local dialect. Its main road is E16 and Fylkesveg 51. Valdres is located approximately midway between Oslo and Bergen. The valley is protected to the west and north by the Jotunheimen mountains and the Valdresflye plateau and to the south by the Gol mountain ridge (''Golsfjellet''). The main rivers are Begna and Etna. Historically, Valdres has had an agricultural economy, but tourism has grown in prominence in later years. Beitostølen, a highly developed tourist area for winter tourists and who have hosted FIS Cross-Country World Cup multiple times is located in Valdres. Valdresflye
Valdresflye, also spelled Valdresflya and Valdresflyi, is a mountain plateau in the easternmost part of the Jotunheimen mountains in Norway. The plateau lies in Innlandet county, mostly in Øystre Slidre Municipality, but a small area extends into Vang Municipality as well. The Norwegian County Road 51 runs over the plateau, reaching above mean sea level, but this road is only open in the summers. The plateau is surrounded by several mountains including Gråhøi to the east, Heimdalshøe to the northeast, Tjønnholstinden to the northwest, and Rasletinden to the west. The lakes Bygdin and Vinstre lie along the south side of the plateau. Name The plateaus is named ''Valdresflye''. The first element is the name of the district Valdres in which it is located. Nord-Aurdal is a municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Valdres. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town Fagernes. Other urban centres in Nord-Aurdal include the villages of Aurdal, Leira, and Skrautvål. The municipality is served by Fagernes Airport, Leirin. Hallingdal
Hallingdal ( en, Halling Valley) is a valley as well as a traditional district located in the traditional and electoral district Buskerud in Viken county in Norway. It consists of six municipalities: Flå, Nes, Gol, Hemsedal, Ål and Hol. Hallingdal is one of the major valleys of eastern Norway, on an area of 5,830 square kilometers. Hallingdal lies in the northern part of the county of Buskerud. The valley stretches from Gulsvik by Lake Krøderen to the border with Hordaland and Sogn og Fjordane. Fagernes
is a town in Nord-Aurdal Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The town is the administrative centre of the municipality as well as the largest urban/commercial centre for the Valdres region. It is located just northwest of the village of Leira and about south of the village of Skrautvål. The town has a population (2021) of 1,951 and a population density of . Fagernes lies approximately 3 hours northwest of the capital city of Oslo, and is an important destination for tourism in Norway, due to good transportation connections and the nature in the surrounding Valdres valley, including the mountain areas such as Jotunheimen and Spåtind. Begna (river)
The Begna is a river in Viken and Innlandet counties in Norway. The long river runs from the Filefjell mountain area through Valdres to the town of Hønefoss where it joins the river Randselva before it empties into the Tyrifjorden. The river Begna drains a watershed of and this is the primary river in the watershed. Along its course, the river passes through the village of Begna in Sør-Aurdal Municipality. The Norwegian writer, Mikkjel Fønhus lived much of his life and located most of his novels along the river Begna. Course The headwaters of the river is found in the Filefjell mountain plateau on the south side of the Jotunheimen mountains. Among the highest points of the headwaters are the lake Steinurdalstjern which sits at an elevation of above sea level. Etna (river)
Etna or Etne is a river in the Valdres region of Innlandet county, Norway. The long river flows through the municipalities of Øystre Slidre, Nord-Aurdal, Etnedal, and Nordre Land before joining the river Dokka at the village of Dokka in Nordre Land Municipality. Soon after the confluence of those two rivers, they join the Randsfjorden (a long, narrow inland lake). The river begins near the mountains Skaget and Langsua inside the Langsua National Park. It then flows in a southerly direction. Much of the river runs through the Etnedalen valley (the namesake of the municipality of Etnedal). The river runs through the village of Bruflat and then shortly after this, it begins heading in a more easterly direction.
