Vaasa (constituency)
Vaasa is a Constituencies of Finland, Finnish constituency represented in eduskunta. It covers the administrative regions of Ostrobothnia (region), Ostrobothnia, Central Ostrobothnia and Southern Ostrobothnia. Vaasa currently elects 17 members to eduskunta. The constituency is largely rural, and particularly the coastal areas around the city of Vaasa are largely Finland-Swedish, Swedish-speaking. Constituencies Of Finland
There are thirteen constituencies in Finland, nowadays called electoral districts by the Finnish Parliament. (The English word "constituency" is confusing due to its various meanings.) The citizens of each electoral district elect from 6 to 35 MPs (members of parliament), depending on the population of the district, but 05 Åland only elects one. The boundaries of the electoral districts are based on the province division in use from 1634 to 1997 and has remained basically the same since the first parliamentary election in 1907. In 1939, the constituency of Northern Oulu was divided between the constituencies of Lapland and Oulu. The constituency of Southern Oulu was renamed to Oulu in the process. After the Continuation War, the electoral districts of Eastern and Western Viipuri, which lost much of their territories to the Soviet Union, were united to the new constituency of Kymi. Petri Salo (born March 26, 1964 in Vaasa, Finland) is Finnish educational researcher, and public figure in adult education. He is a professor in adult education at the Åbo Akademi University, Vaasa (Finland). Previously he has worked as Assistant Professor and Professor of adult education besides his institution also at University of Tampere. Håkan is a common Swedish given name. It has a common origin with the Norwegian given name Haakon (modern Norwegian Håkon, Danish Hakon) in the Old Norse ''Hákon''. Juha Iisakki Mieto (born 20 November 1949) is a Finnish former cross-country skier, who was born in Kurikka. He competed in the 1972, 1976, 1980 and 1984 Olympics and won five medals, including a gold medal in the 4 × 10 km relay in 1976. He also placed fourth three times, losing the 15 km bronze medal in 1972 by 0.06 seconds. Johan Bjarne Kallis (born 21 March 1945 in Kokkola) is the former chairman of the Christian Democratic Party (KD), previously known as the Finnish Christian Coalition (SKL), and a member of the Parliament of Finland. Kallis works as the principal of the Kokkola academy of commerce and has a master's degree in political sciences.
