University Of Missouri
The University of Missouri (Mizzou or MU) is a public university, public Land-grant university, land-grant research university in Columbia, Missouri, United States. It is Missouri's largest university and the flagship of the four-campus University of Missouri System. Founded in 1839, MU was the first public university west of the Mississippi River. It has been a member of the Association of American Universities since 1908 and is classified among "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity." Max Mapes Ellis
Max Mapes Ellis, (December 3, 1887 - August 26, 1953) was an American physiologist. He was married to the American ichthyologist Marion Durbin Ellis (1887-1972) in 1909. Early life and career Ellis, born in Lawrence, Indiana, and raised in West Lafayette, Indiana, was the son of Horace and Grace V. Ellis. He completed his undergraduate studies at Vincennes University in 1907, where he was an active member of the Sigma Pi fraternity. In 1908, he attended Sigma Pi's inaugural National Congress as a delegate. Subsequently, Ellis earned his PhD from Indiana University in 1909. Following his graduation, he assumed the role of assistant professor of biology, overseeing the zoological department at the University of Colorado at Boulder, situated in Boulder, Colorado. In 1909 he was published in The Journal of Experimental Zoology for his experimentation with tadpoles. Linda Bullock
Linda Faye Clark Bullock (born 1950) is an American professor of nursing. Education Bullock received a bachelor's and master's degree in nursing from Texas Woman's University. She completed a doctor of philosophy in public health at University of Otago. Career Bullock worked with professors Judith McFarlane and Barbara Parker to investigate the consequences of physical abuse during pregnancy. Bullock showed that low birth weights were associated with abuse. Together they created tools that are used by researchers who are investigating abuse during pregnancy. Bullock was the first nurse faculty member at Christchurch School of Medicine. Rick Brandenburg
Dr. Ricky Lynn Brandenburg (born April 4, 1955, in Wabash, Indiana) is a William Neal Reynolds Professor of Distinction professor of entomology at North Carolina State University. He is a native of Indiana, and received his bachelor's degree in entomology from Purdue University in 1977 and his Ph.D. from North Carolina State University in 1981. He spent four years as a faculty member at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri before accepting his current position at N. C. State in 1985. Dr. Brandenburg's research and educational programs focus on developing a sound understanding of pest biology and ecology and the development of ecologically and environmentally sound turfgrass insect pest management programs. These programs include the use of cultural practices and biological control as well as various techniques to forecast pest outbreaks. He and N.C. Leonard Blumenthal
Leonard Mascot Blumenthal (February 27, 1901 – August 1984) was a Jewish American mathematician. Career He received his Ph.D. in 1927 from Johns Hopkins University, under the supervision of Frank Morley; his dissertation was titled ''Lagrange Resolvents in Euclidean Geometry''. He taught for the majority of his professional career at the University of Missouri and was the author of ''A Modern View of Geometry''. He was a visiting scholar at the Institute for Advanced Study from 1933 to 1936. According to the Mathematics Genealogy Project, he had 18 Ph.D. students at Missouri, among them Leroy Milton Kelly and William Arthur Kirk; he is the academic ancestor of over 80 mathematicians.. Estrogen
Estrogen (also spelled oestrogen in British English; see spelling differences) is a category of sex hormone responsible for the development and regulation of the female reproductive system and secondary sex characteristics. There are three major endogenous estrogens that have estrogenic hormonal activity: estrone (E1), estradiol (E2), and estriol (E3). Estradiol, an estrane, is the most potent and prevalent. Another estrogen called estetrol (E4) is produced only during pregnancy. Estrogens are synthesized in all vertebrates and some insects. Quantitatively, estrogens circulate at lower levels than androgens in both men and women. While estrogen levels are significantly lower in males than in females, estrogens nevertheless have important physiological roles in males. Edgar Allen
Edgar Allen (May 2, 1892 – February 3, 1943) was an American anatomist and physiologist. He is known for the discovery of estrogen and his role in creating the field of endocrinology. Born on Cañon (Canyon) City, Colorado, Allen was educated at Brown University. After serving in World War I he took a position at Washington University School of Medicine in 1919 until, in 1923, he was appointed to the chair of anatomy at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri. Ten years later he was appointed to the chair at Yale University. At Missouri, he began his studies of sex hormones. While it was commonly believed at the time that the female reproductive cycle was controlled by substance in the ''corpus luteum'', Allen sought the answer in the follicles surrounding the ovum, leading to his discovery of estrogen, though it was identified six years later by Adolf Butenandt in 1929. Ed Robb (July 1, 1942 – September 24, 2011) was a member of the faculty at the University of Missouri, the president of a consulting firm, and a Republican Party (United States), Republican member of the Missouri House of Representatives. He resided in Columbia, Missouri, with his wife, Rosa. They have five children: Shawn, Melissa, Tom, David, and Adam. He was born in Chicago, Illinois to Howard Robb and Georgia Field Robb, graduating from Elmwood Park High School (Illinois), Elmwood Park High School in Chicago in 1960. Chuck Gross
Chuck Gross (born August 20, 1958) is a bank officer and Republican former member of the Missouri State Senate. He resides in St. Charles, Missouri, with his wife, Leslie Ann Gross, and their two daughters, Megan and Madelynn. He graduated from St. Charles High School in 1976, and went on to University of Missouri. He received a B.A. degree in public administration there in 1981, and a M.P.A. in the same field in 1982. He is a licensed real estate appraiser. He also currently works as a vice president at UMB Bank. He previously worked in the personnel management field with the Army and Air Force Exchange Service in Japan and Guam for eight years.
