Ufology ( ) is the investigation of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) by people who believe that they may be of extraordinary origins (most frequently of extraterrestrial alien visitors). While there are instances of government, private, and fringe science investigations of UFOs, ufology is generally regarded by skeptics and science educators as a canonical example of pseudoscience. Etymology Ufology is a neologism derived from ''UFO'' (a term apparently coined by Edward J. Ruppelt), and is derived from appending the acronym UFO with the suffix ''-logy'' (from the Ancient Greek ''λογία'' (''logiā'')). Ademar José Gevaerd
Ademar José Gevaerd (19 March 1962 – 9 December 2022), also known simply as A. J. Gevaerd was a Brazilian ufologist. He was editor of ''Revista UFO'' (UFO Magazine), founder and director of the Brazilian Center for Flying Saucer Research (CBPDV) and Brazilian Director for Mutual UFO Network (MUFON). He represented Brazil at the Center for UFO Studies. He appeared on the Globo Network, the Discovery Channel and the History Channel. He spoke in many cities in Brazil and in other 29 countries, and conducted over 700 field investigations of UFO cases in Brazil. He was described as one of the most respected of ufologists. Planetary Objects Proposed In Religion, Astrology, Ufology And Pseudoscience
There are a number of planetary objects proposed in religion, astrology, ufology and pseudoscience whose existence is not supported by scientific evidence. Lilith Lilith is a fictitious second moon of Earth, supposedly about the same mass as the Earth's Moon, proposed in 1918 by astrologer Walter Gorn Old, who called himself Sepharial. Sepharial applied the name Lilith from medieval Jewish legend, where she is described as the first wife of Adam. Sepharial claimed that Lilith was the same second moon that scientist Georg Waltemath claimed to have discovered twenty years earlier, but which had never been confirmed. Sepharial also claimed to be the first person in history to observe Waltemath's moon as it crossed the sun, and rationalized that it was too dark to be otherwise visually detected. Jacques Vallée
Jacques Fabrice Vallée (; born September 24, 1939) is an Internet pioneer, computer scientist, venture capitalist, author, ufologist and astronomer currently residing in San Francisco, California and Paris, France. His scientific career began as a professional astronomer at the Paris Observatory. Vallée co-developed the first computerized map of Mars for NASA in 1963. He later worked on the network information center for the ARPANET, a precursor to the modern Internet, as a staff engineer of SRI International's Augmentation Research Center under Douglas Engelbart. Vallée is also an important figure in the study of unidentified flying objects (UFOs), first noted for a defense of the scientific legitimacy of the extraterrestrial hypothesis and later for promoting the interdimensional hypothesis. Jean-Pierre Petit
Jean-Pierre Petit is a French engineer. Education Jean-Pierre Petit obtained his engineer's degree in 1961 at the Institut supérieur de l'aéronautique et de l'espace (Supaéro). Petit defended his doctoral thesis, ''Applications de la théorie cinétique des gaz à la physique des plasmas et à la dynamique des galaxies'', at the University of Provence in 1972. Petit worked in topology with Bernard Morin on the torus and sphere eversion in 1978. Doru Davidovici
Doru Davidovici (; 1945–1989), was a Romanian aviator and writer. Born in a Romanian-Jewish family, Doru Davidovici became one of the most loved Romanian fiction writers in the 1980s. During the communist years, his books gave an unusual sense of liberty and new horizons by describing the experience of flying, and the closeness it forged – both between pilots, and between pilots and their machines. The plane is seen by Davidovici not simply as a machine that enables one to fly but as an actual character, with its own personality and almost with its own soul. His work is influenced by writers like Ray Bradbury, Radu Tudoran and Bertolt Brecht. José Jaime Maussan Flota (born May 31, 1953) is a Mexican journalist, television personality and ufologist. Career Jaime Maussan studied journalism at UNAM and Miami University in Ohio, United States. Since 1970 he has been a reporter at various newspapers and broadcasting outlets, among them El Sol de México, XEX Radio and with Televisa, he worked at 24 Horas newscast. With Televisa he was a correspondent at the United States and a general assignment reporter for the ''Domingo a Domingo'' (Sunday to Sunday) program hosted by Jacobo Zabludovsky. He also produced stories for the Sunday show. In June 1990 he received a Global 500 award from Mostafa Kamal Tolba, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
