US Quidditch Cup
The US Quadball Cup, previously known as US Quidditch Cup, is a quadball tournament held in the United States and organized by US Quadball. The first US Quidditch Cup was held in 2007, and the tournament features collegiate and club teams from the United States. The tournament was formerly known as the IQA World Cup, but that name now refers to the international championship IQA World Cup. History The first intercollegiate Quidditch World Cup was held in 2007 at Middlebury College in Vermont, between Middlebury and Vassar College from Poughkeepsie, New York. Since then, the US Quadball Cup has been held in various places in the continental United States. On average, there are 70 or so teams present that proceed to pool play, where teams are grouped and the top teams from the group advance to bracket play. US Quidditch
US Quadball, previously known as US Quidditch, is a non-profit organization that governs the sport of quadball in the United States of America. Quadball is a sport that combines elements of lacrosse, dodgeball, and rugby. The sport is played at more than 100 colleges in the United States. History Quadball was founded in 2005 by Xander Manshel, a then-freshman at Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont, Alex Benepe, and several of their friends. The rules were originally derived from the fictional sport of Quidditch, from the fantasy novel and movie series Harry Potter. Gameplay included elements similar to lacrosse, dodgeball, and rugby. In October 2005, the first quadball game was played at Battell Beach in Middlebury, Vermont. Around 30 players showed up to play the game. The US Quidditch Cup 10 was the 2017 edition of the US Quidditch Cup, a quidditch club tournament organized by US Quidditch. The tournament took place in Kissimmee, Florida from April 8–9, 2017. The IQA World Cup VI was the 2013 edition of the IQA World Cup (now the US Quidditch Cup), a quidditch club tournament then organized by the International Quidditch Association. The tournament was hosted in Kissimmee, Florida from April 13–14, 2013. The Cup featured 77 teams from 4 countries. Sixty of the teams competed in the D1 division, and 17 teams competed in the D2 division. The D1 winner was University of Texas, who defeated UCLA in the championship match. This marked the first time that Middlebury College did not win the Cup. The D2 division was won by Sam Houston State University who defeated Loyola University New Orleans, making the championships an all-Texas affair. IQA World Cup V
The IQA World Cup V was the 2011 edition of the IQA World Cup (now the US Quidditch Cup), a quidditch club tournament then organized by the International Quidditch Association. It was hosted at Icahn Stadium on Randalls Island in New York City on November 12–13. The Cup featured 96 teams from five countries competing in three divisions. This marked the first time that teams from outside North America competed, with Argentina, Finland and New Zealand sending one team each. Teams were allowed to register between 7 and 21 players, allowing up to 2,000 athletes to participate. Division 1 featured 60 teams, Division 2 featured 24 teams, and the High School division featured 8 teams. Besides the sports games, the event also included a two-day festival. IQA World Cup IV
The IQA World Cup IV was the 2010 edition of the IQA World Cup (now the US Quidditch Cup), a quidditch club tournament then organized by the International Quidditch Association. The tournament was hosted in New York City at DeWitt Clinton Park. It was the first year that the cup was hosted in outside Middlebury, Vermont. The IQA World Cup III was the 2009 edition of the IQA World Cup (now the US Quidditch Cup), a quidditch club tournament then organized by the Intercollegiate Quidditch Association. It was held on Sunday, October 25, 2009, at Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont. Hosting team Middlebury College won the tournament.
