Tirschenreuth (district)
Tirschenreuth ( Northern Bavarian: ''Landgreis Tirschenreith'') is a ''Landkreis'' (district) in the northeastern part of Bavaria, Germany. Neighboring districts are (from the south, clockwise) Neustadt an der Waldnaab, Bayreuth and Wunsiedel. To the east are the Czech districts of Tachov (Plzeň) and Cheb (Karlovy Vary). Geography The district is located in the hills of the Fichtelgebirge. Main rivers in the district are the Waldnaab and the Fichtelnaab. History The district was formed in 1972 by merging the previous districts Tirschenreuth and Kemnath. Coat of arms The golden lion in the left of the coat of arms is the symbol of the Electorate of the Palatinate. Tirschenreuth
Tirschenreuth ( Northern Bavarian: ''Dirschnrad'', ''Diascharad'') is the capital city of the district of Tirschenreuth. It is located in the northeast of Bavaria, very close to the Czech-Bavarian border. Geography Tirschenreuth is located in the north of Upper Palatinate administrative region, around 75 miles north of Regensburg and 35 miles east of Bayreuth. Kemnath
Kemnath () is a small town in the district of Tirschenreuth, in Bavaria, Germany. It is situated near the Fichtelgebirge, 24 km southeast of Bayreuth. The town's motto is "das Tor zur Oberpfalz," which translates into English as "The Door to the Upper Palatinate." History Kemnath was first referenced in historical documents on 6 July 1008 by the Holy Roman Emperor Henry II when he donated ''Keminata'' to the Diocese of Bamberg. In 2008, Kemnath celebrated its 1000th anniversary with a series of special events throughout the town culminating in a major celebration in August 2008. Geography The town is in the foothills of the Fichtelgebirge Mountains of northeast Bavaria and is approximately 55 km from the Czech border at Mähring. Konnersreuth
Konnersreuth is a municipality in the district of Tirschenreuth in Bavaria, Germany. It is situated in the northeast foothills of the Steinwald mountains between the Fichtelgebirge mountains and the Upper Palatinate Forest, close to the Czech border. The village is best known as the home of the 20th-century Catholic stigmatist Therese Neumann. History The historical record first mentions Konnersreuth in 1218, in a chronicle kept at Waldsassen Abbey. In 1468 the village was granted the right to hold regular markets. In 1780, the population was 954. The market rights were held by Waldsassen Abbey until about 1803, when the monastery holdings were secularized. The present municipal boundaries were set in the 1818 Bavarian administrative reforms. The coat of arms was awarded in 1468. Waldsassen
Waldsassen ( Northern Bavarian: ''Woidsassen'') is a town in the district of Tirschenreuth in the Upper Palatinate region of Bavaria. Geography Waldsassen is the northernmost municipality of the Upper Palatinate region. In the northeast, it borders the town of Cheb (''Eger'') in the Czech Republic. The historic tripoint of ducal Altbayern, the Franconian lands of Bayreuth, and the Bohemian Egerland lies near the village of Pechtnersreuth. The town is famous for the Waldsassen Basilica and Waldsassen Abbey, both built in a Baroque style. The latter contains the much visited Abbey library, whose wood carvings were completed by Karl Stilp in 1726. Waldershof
Waldershof is a town in the district of Tirschenreuth, in Bavaria, Germany. It is situated 22 km northwest of Tirschenreuth, and 3 km southwest of Marktredwitz. Geography The 60 square kilometer City of Waldershof is bounded on the North by the City of Marktredwitz. The boundary line between the two cities is also the border for the counties of Tirschenreuth and Wunsiedel as well as the regional zones of the Upper Palatinate and Upper Franconia. Since the completion of the municipality reform, the population has grown to approximately 5,000 inhabitants. Due to their locations, the unincorporated portions of the community qualify as vacation spots, this is especially true for Shurbach, Kossain and Rodenzenreuth which are found at base of the Kossaine and Hohenhard, Poppenreuth and Helmbrechts which are situated on the north side of the Steinwald.
