The Theaterhochschule Leipzig was a theatre school in Leipzig, Saxony, Germany, which existed from 1953 to 1992. The official name was Theaterhochschule "Hans Otto" Leipzig. History The Theaterhochschule Leipzig was founded on 1 November 1953 as a merger of two institutions, the in Weimar and the Theaterschule Leipzig. From the late 1960s, Bertolt Brecht was a teacher. In 1967 it was named after the actor whom the Nazis had murdered in 1933. The Hochschule was located at the Villa Sieskind in the and buildings in the neighbourhood. The institution was dissolved per the ''Sächsisches Hochschulstrukturgesetz'' on 10 April 1992. The acting department became a faculty of the Hochschule für Musik und Theater "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy", while theatre studies formed a new institute of the Leipzig University. A villa is a type of house that was originally an ancient Roman upper class country house. Since its origins in the Roman villa, the idea and function of a villa have evolved considerably. Ute Lubosch
Ute Lubosch (born 10 March 1953 in Erfurt) is a German actress, who began her career in East German theater, film, and television. Background Ute Lubosch studied acting at the Theaterhochschule Leipzig and in the drama studio of the Dresden State Theatre in Dresden. While in Dresden, she had her first commitment for longer engagements at the State Theatre Nordhausen and the Rostock People's Theatre. Since the early 1970s she starred in many DEFA films. Carina Nicolette Wiese (born 26 February 1968) is a German actress. Personal life and career Wiese was born in Dresden, East Germany, where she went to school and began acting at a youth theatre in Pirna from a young age. She completed an apprenticeship as a clothing worker with high school diploma as well as evening studies in painting and graphics at the academy of arts in Dresden, as she originally wanted to become a costume designer. In 1988 Wiese went on to study acting at Theaterhochschule Leipzig. She finished her studies early in 1991, following her first acting engagement at . Peter Sodann (born 1 June 1936 in Meissen, Saxony) is a German actor, director and politician. He was the Left Party's nominee for the 2009 presidential election, but was not considered a serious candidate by the German media. Early life Sodann was born on 1 June 1936 in Meissen to a working-class family. After training to be a toolmaker, he moved to Leipzig in order to study law. Günther Rücker (February 2, 1924 - February 24, 2008) was a German writer, playwright and film director. Rücker won several awards for his work, including the National Prize of the GDR and the Prix Italia. Rücker was born at Reichenberg (Liberec), and studied at the Theaterhochschule Leipzig.
